FY26: Teacher, Parent Educator, Judy Center Early Learning Hub, Summit Hall ES, 0.5 FTE

Summary Description:
Under direction of the Division of Early Childhood and Title I Programs, supports implementation of the Judy Center Early Learning Hub grant, which seeks to increase school readiness by providing comprehensive early learning and family support services to children (pre-natal through five years old) and their families within an identified catchment area in accordance with Judy Center Performance Standards. Major responsibilities are to support families/caretakers and staff working with children ages pre-natal through five years old, who are enrolled in the Judy Center program. Assistance occurs within the play group setting or through group and individual meetings with parents. Parent Educators plan and conduct parent play group sessions and meetings, and assist families through intake process.Physical Demands:As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job. Requires moderate to frequent physical activity, including sitting on the floor and interactions with infants, toddlers, and their caregivers.Special Requirements:Required to attend school, team, and division meetings, programs and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement. Use of personal vehicle required; 10 duty days required during the summer

Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of early childhood pedagogy and early childhood education programs; early childhood programs offered locally as well as knowledge of the Blueprint for Maryland^s Future, and state legislation relating to early learning programming and services for preschool students; ability to understand and relate well to children, their parents/caregivers, classroom teachers, and MCPS staff. Excellent human relations and oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of evidence-based practices and ability to incorporate Maryland Early Learning Standards into planning and delivery of lesson plans. Ability to establish play groups that provide an opportunity for parents to learn about the importance of child-centered, developmentally-appropriate, purposeful play. Ability to model activities for parents to engage their children in activities aligned with the early learning standards.

Education Training Experience:
Master^s degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in early childhood or elementary education , counseling, social work, psychology, or related field. Training and considerable experience in working with families and children (ages prenatal to five), including children with developmental delays; those who are multilingual, and those experiencing housing insecurity. Experience in education-based setting preferred; or other combinations of applicable education and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position.Certificate License:Maryland State Department of Education requirements as early childhood teacher preferred, but not required. Other licenses/certification in appropriate fields are acceptable.
