FSQR Specialist

The FSQR Specialist is responsible for supporting all FSQR activities and programs at the site level. It serves as a backup to the management representative for all applicable areas within Quality and Food Safety to ensure that we satisfy our customers, comply with corporate and local/state/federal legal and regulatory requirements, and continuously improve our systems, processes, and culture. Ensures product safety, integrity, legality, quality, and authenticity of all products produced.

Job Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

In the U.S. or Canadian sites shipping to the U.S., act as Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) and ensure all requirements are met for PCs/CCPs/oPRPs for FSMA and/or SFCR. Ensure compliance with specifications, customer, and regulatory requirements at the site. Support the consumer and/or customer complaint investigations process, including conducting root cause analysis and driving corrective action plans, up to and including into manufacturing processes and/or product specification(s). Support during all quality and food safety audits including internal, third party, and regulatory agencies. Supports Quality and Food Safety culture at the site. Completes FSQR laboratory testing and review/approve results. Act as subject matter expert for lab test methods and support training of new FSQR technicians. Support the regular reviews of the facility’s Pre-requisite Programs (PRPs), GMP Compliance, and Sanitation/Housekeeping Compliance. Clear communication with FSQR Manager when facility related incidents occur. Oversight of FSQR related instruction, inspection, testing and approval following maintenance and repair work. Implementation of FSQR department associate safety suggestions. Review of COAs and COCs for accuracy, distribution as applicable. Generation, review and revision of SOPs and forms for FSQR. Entry of FSQR related work orders. Assist with new hire and annual FSQR training. Calibration and capabilities of lab and additive feed equipment. Review and identify trends of well field brine chemistry as well as brine treating data. Grow knowledge base to back up and develop for future facility FSQR Manager roles.

Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Engineering, or other related science field is required. Minimum of 1 year experience working in a food, feed or USP manufacturing FSQR laboratory Strong knowledge of International Safety Protocol (ISP) and Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), Standards and Regulatory Requirements of FDA FSMA, HACCP Programs. As applicable, knowledge of USP regulations. PCQI-certification in Human and/or Animal Feed preferred.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: 

Highly self-motivated, high energy and ability to work independently and team contributor and collaborator, show initiative, and drive positive change in system, processes, and culture. Ability to understand and comply with all company policies and procedures as well as all applicable local/state/federal regulations. Well-developed interpersonal, communication skills and able to manage conflict in a stressful environment. Ability to work with cross-functional teams and ability to work successfully under pressure in a fast paced and challenging site environment. Ability to effectively communicate and present information to all levels throughout the Morton Salt organization as well as internal and external staff, government authorities, auditors, customers, vendors, occasionally under conditions of urgency and in pressure situations. Strong interpersonal skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Regularly required to sit or stand, reach and move about the facility. Work performed in a plant environment.

Special Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: 

Frequent exposure to industrial operations such as temperature changes, dust derived from processing, moving machinery and equipment, forklift traffic and moisture. Light to moderate physical lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds without assistance, when required. Regularly required to sit or stand, reach and move about the facility for prolonged periods of time. May perform sustained manual activities at moderate levels of exertion including lifting and moving loads of up to fifty (50) pounds, climbing ladders/stairs and working on elevated platforms. Works and travels throughout surface plant and underground mine environment of varied temperatures and humidity. Must be capable of wearing all required PPE and must be physically able to access all plant work areas. Uses full range of motion. Works in general office, surface manufacturing plant and underground mine environment.
