Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Food Safety and Quality Technician to ensure daily compliance with food safety and quality requirements. The role involves leading by example in Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and working collaboratively to enhance food safety and quality. ResponsibilitiesEnsure both food safety and quality of products and processes regularly.Perform physical inspections and analytical tests for food safety and quality, including checks for color, pH, seal integrity, temperature, date code, X-ray monitoring, weight, label accuracy, allergens, and cleanliness.Document all food safety and quality checks as required.Ensure all stakeholders follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), good housekeeping, and company policies and procedures.Perform hold and release of products after thorough review and assessment for food safety and quality, providing feedback and guidance for corrective actions when non-conformance issues are found.Conduct pre-operation inspections of line equipment and processing environment at the start of shifts or during line changeovers, including environment testing such as ATP and allergen tests.Collect retain samples from the production line and perform product evaluations at the end of product shelf life.Perform proper calibration of laboratory equipment by set frequency and maintain recordkeeping.Take appropriate actions to correct deviations or notify the FSQ manager.Act as a key monitor for reinforcing GMPs throughout plant and warehouse facilities.Perform direct GMP observations and address any discrepancies with the appropriate department, following up on corrective actions.Support the preparation of all third-party audits such as FDA, USDA, Organic, SQF, or other schemes, as well as customer audits.Audit food safety and quality records documented by operators.Identify opportunities to improve current methods and processes and make recommendations to the FSQ Manager.Act as a backup for the FSQ lead and other FSQ team members in their absence.Assist in new hire and refresher trainings for food safety and quality-related topics.Participate in mock-recalls and mock-product withdrawal sessions.Assist in continuous improvement efforts and follow up on corrective action implementation.Keep the FSQ Manager informed about problems and opportunities for improvement.Assist with special in-plant or lab projects as directed.Essential SkillsKnowledge of food science and food safety principles.Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).Additional Skills & QualificationsAbility to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and instruments.Work Environment
The Food Safety and Quality Technician will primarily work in a food lab/kitchen environment, which may involve exposure to hazardous chemicals and materials. Safety protocols and personal protective equipment are required. The shift typically starts at 10 PM, with flexibility needed for potential weekend shifts. Workdays are Monday through Friday, with Saturday shifts based on production needs. Physical requirements include frequent standing, lifting, and performing repetitive tasks in an environment with temperatures ranging from 5 to 90°F. The facility contains potentially dangerous machinery and equipment, with high noise levels and slick floors.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $30.00/hr.
