The Opportunity
As a dedicated FSB Consumer Underwriter I, within defined guidelines and framework, you will review and underwrite consumer loan and credit card applications. Applies understanding of established written risks and compliance policies, guidelines, and procedures and regulatory requirements when evaluating loan attributes.
We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week.
This position will be based in the following location: Phoenix, AZ.
Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
What you'll do:
Utilizes established procedures and guidelines to validate credit, income, and other relevant information to underwrite credit card and consumer loans of moderate risk within a defined limit of authority and to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Ensures loan agreements are complete, accurate, and in compliance with policy.
Researches, develops, and documents detailed synopsis of the application files to ensure decision clarity while providing feedback and serving as a resource to peers and business partners.
May provide insight on projects relating to process and system enhancements.
Maintains proficient understanding of all aspects of Consumer Lending and Credit Card portfolio and underwriting guidelines.
Utilizes prior relevant underwriting experience to make lending decisions with an advanced level of authority.
Manages a high volume of credit card and consumer loans due to higher level of decisioning authority.
Reviews member provided documents for accuracy and alignment with company and industry standards.
Documents loan decisions and required provisions necessary to complete the loan and communicates the decision.
Completes loan decisions which most effectively mitigate credit risks for USAA.
Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you have:
Bachelor’s degree OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
4 years of consumer lending and/or real estate lending experience with at least 2 years of consumer lending and/or real estate underwriting experience.
Proficient knowledge of consumer loan processes, data analysis tools, and industry acumen.
Successful completion of a job-related assessment and certification to obtain lending authority is required upon completion of training.
Knowledge of federal laws, rules, regulations, and applicable guidance to include: TILA/REG Z, REG B, UDAAP/UDAP, FCRA, BSA/AML, SCRA/MLA, OCC Heightened Standards.
What sets you apart:
Advanced knowledge and experience in Underwriting.
Consumer Lending Underwriting experience in the last 2 years.
Proficiency in CLOE, Conversant and Click to Chat.
U.S. military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner.
Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $63,590 - $114,450.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
