Job Description

The role focuses on driving efficiencies, innovation, and modernization in digital service delivery, enhancing user experience through human-centered design approaches, agile methodology, and modern data practices. The position is part of a broader initiative to simplify and improve digital interactions with the government.

ResponsibilitiesDevelop creative, evidence-based front-end design solutions for digital service delivery, ensuring alignment with corporate design methods and standards.Create foundational design artifacts on various platforms, including prototypes, wireframes, design pattern libraries, graphic design style guides, and build-ready design specifications.Participate in agile project management processes, including sprint planning, sprint reviews, demos, and retrospectives.Conduct usability tests and report on the effectiveness of current and future designs.Analyze and recommend design accessibility improvements to ensure compliance with applicable standards.Provide justifiable recommendations for design decisions to align project teams, program areas, and senior management.Essential SkillsMinimum of 2 years of experience as a Front End Designer, enhancing services via web and other channels.Minimum of 2 years of experience developing UX artifacts, such as scenarios, storyboards, wireframes, flows, and prototypes.Minimum of 2 years working within a cross-functional product team in an Agile environment.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience in building and maintaining component libraries/design systems for at least 2 years.Experience exploring multiple design solutions and communicating them visually through sketches, user flows, wireframes, and prototypes for at least 2 years.Experience in production design for digital devices or complex applications for at least 2 years.Knowledge of accessibility standards, including the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, with 2 years of experience.Familiarity with methodologies and design thinking related to service experience improvement for 2 years.Proficiency in frontend design applications such as Axure, Adobe XD, Sketch, and Figma for 2 years.Experience working as a Front End Designer on projects of comparable size and complexity to service innovation projects for 2 years.Experience working in a dedicated public sector central digital office for 2 years.Work Environment

The Front End Designer will primarily work remotely, with occasional travel to Alberta for meetings or work sessions. The designer must provide their own equipment when working remotely. In-person work will involve provided office space and necessary supplies, but the designer will still need to supply their own computer and software. The virtual meeting tool used is Microsoft Teams, with occasional use of Zoom. Some travel within Alberta may be required for field research and user interviews. Work must be done within Canada

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $70.00 - $95.00/hr.
