Description
The City of Garden City is accepting applications for Front Desk Clerk with the Recreation Department. This position performs a variety of routing and repetitive receptionist and/or clerical work in support of administrative, professional and/or technical staff activities. Customer service is the most important component of the job. The incumbent must demonstrate skills and abilities to deal with demanding and difficult people in a high customer traffic environment. The incumbent works in partnership with other employees, departments/divisions, external entities, and the public in delivering effective and innovative services. Provide holistic services to internal and external customers by seeking ways to integrate programs or services provided by other departments, divisions, and external entities.
Examples of Duties
+ Acts as desk clerk or receptionist directing individuals to proper locations, providing information, collecting fees, facilitating registrations, checking equipment in and out, and in general, assisting the public. Assists in the maintenance of various records such as inventory, activity reports, receipts, memberships, and customer accounts. Operates cash drawer, computer, and other standard office equipment. Sorts and files various types of correspondence, materials, and documents. Assists visitors or staff in emergency situations. Observes, follows and enforces established policies and procedures in the daily conduct of the job.
+ Plans and prioritizes daily duties to complete scheduled assigned work within parameters assigned by the supervisor. Delivers work product and services with responsiveness, courtesy and tact in personal interactions with customers and staff. Handles monetary transactions including daily admissions, memberships, punch cards, class registrations, etc.
+ Operates a personal computer to access email and Recreation software. Uses computer to process registrations, memberships and cash transactions. Operates and balances a cash drawer.
+ This position will have the work hours of 1:00pm – 6:00pm, M-F, with the potential for additional hours when needed. Responsible for the closing of Recreation Office daily. Works under the direct supervision of the Operations Supervisor.
+ Other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must possess high verbal and written skills. Must possess strong customer service skills. Ability to understand verbal and written instructions. Ability to maintain confidentiality of customer accounts. Ability to communicate with City employees and the general public. Ability to use Microsoft, Outlook and Recreation Software programs.
Education, Certification and Experience: High school diploma or GED. Responsible administrative support/customer service experience preferred. Valid Kansas driver’s license required.
Supplemental Information
Environment: Work is performed in a typical office environment.
Physical Characteristics: Able to perform light physical work, lifting up to 25 pounds and lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds.
