The role will play a full and active role in the activities and operations of the Friction Materials team with specific responsibilities for the design, manufacturing, review, analysis and/or characterization of both physical and dynamic properties of carbon friction materials. Your day-to-day: 1. Characterize materials using various techniques including optical and SEM microscopy. 2. Carry out inspection of carbon heat stacks returned from service and determine cause of failure. 3. Support new program design teams as required. 4. Support manufacturing with production issues inc. Changes to SOP’s, Specifications, obsolescence issues etc. 5. Write new material processing documents and maintain current processing documents. 6. Participate in conceptualizing, planning and executing carbon R&D both in evolutionary and revolutionary stages of development. 7. Develop new products. The work is both theoretical and experimental in nature. 8. Expected to interface with carbon production in various locations Key Responsibilities: 1. Develop Process Specifications to provide Manufacturing with updated and accurate process documents. 2. Develop Material Specification to provide Manufacturing with updated and accurate documents. 3. Construct Memorandums to for customer support and Manufacturing support issues. 4. Construct Engineering Drawings to support projects and programs for AR&D. 5. Construct Engineering Drawing Documents in support of AR&D projects. 6. Support/witness Manufacturing trials to provide support for AR&D efforts and programs. You will have the following skills / experience: 1. A degree in: materials science, mechanical, chemical or aerospace engineering 2 . Mechanical laboratory experience desired. 3 . Carbon/carbon processing or related field desired but not essential. 4 . Background in carbon/carbon composites is preferred. 5 . Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project and Visual Basic Programming 6 . Experience with DFMEA and Risk Analysis preferred.
