As a Fresh Meat Specialist, you will consult with and advise our retail customer base on best practices to grow market share, increase perishable revenue, and improve profitability. This role involves direct engagement with decision-makers and Independent Retailers to support sales and merchandising efforts across perishable categories, while increasing participation in company products and programs.

Job Description

Full-Time, On-Site Role

Location: Rancho Cordova, CA

You will contribute by:

Executing quarterly sell programs

Supporting reset activities, including new store and redesign set-ups

Providing regular category training on new items, merchandising, and departmental best practices

Informing special activities, demand forecasts, product surveys, and promotional bookings

Optimizing category assortments and addressing key category voids in collaboration with Category Management and Merchandising/Procurement teams

Assisting department managers, owners, and/or supervisors with product selection, training, merchandising, and retail pricing to establish proper gross profits

Writing ads using the ad program and maintaining product lists with acceptable retails

Making routed store visits to support retailers in strengthening their business relationship with our company through problem solving, program development, and trust-building

Selling special buy programs and associated merchandising plans

Monitoring and communicating competitive activities, both locally and nationally

Presenting and selling new programs and services while educating retailer buyers and representatives on our offerings

Traveling frequently to retail store locations

We’re searching for candidates with:

Knowledge of all technical and managerial aspects of supermarket operations; familiarity with wholesale functions such as transportation, schedules, and equipment

Experience in product procurement and vendor relations, with a strong understanding of perishable products and supply chains

Excellent oral and written communication skills, time management, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities

Strong interpersonal skills and financial acumen related to supermarket P&Ls

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and strong presentation skills

Flexibility to adapt to a dynamic environment

Food Safety Certification or eligibility for certification

2-5 years of experience in retail and wholesale perishables category management

Environment:

Office : Perishable Warehouse (28F to 60F)

Warehouse : Freezer (-20F to 0F)

Store : Grocery Warehouse (50F to 90F)

Hanger : Office Temperature (65F to 75F)
