Freelance Senior Data Strategist

Overview Position Overview The Senior Data Strategist plays a central role in bridging insights and execution across creative, media, technology, and analytics. This individual will guide how data is structured, interpreted, and applied to inform everything from audience segmentation to campaign personalization to performance measurement. With a strong foundation in digital marketing strategy and a passion for making data actionable, this strategist will lead efforts to unlock smarter, faster, and more effective marketing across channels. Responsibilities Data Strategy & Application ● Architect holistic data strategies that connect 1st-, 2nd-, and 3rd-party data sources to inform targeting, content, and media strategies. ● Translate marketing goals into measurable KPIs, audience strategies, and data-informed messaging frameworks. ● Develop, refine, and implement robust DCO strategies that leverage real-time data signals to deliver the most relevant creative variants to target audiences. ● Partner with internal and external stakeholders to design end-to-end data ecosystems that support scalable personalization, decisioning, and performance measurement. Data Normalization & Preparation ● Assess and clean incoming client data for accuracy, consistency, and completeness. ● Normalize disparate data sources (e.g., CRM exports, pixel data, media platform data) to enable unified campaign measurement and actionable insights. ● Develop schemas and mapping logic to structure data for ingestion into dashboards, reporting tools, and advanced analytics workflows. ● Collaborate with client-side IT/BI teams and internal analytics partners to ensure data pipelines are functional, reliable, and usable. ● Support ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) and transformation workflows using SQL, Python, and business intelligence tools like Looker or Tableau. Segmentation, Personalization & Journey Mapping ● Develop and validate audience segmentation strategies using behavioral, contextual, and demographic inputs. ● Convert raw data and audience signals into actionable marketing opportunities—informing messaging hierarchies, channel selection, and content personalization strategies. ● Create data-informed journey maps and content frameworks that guide full-funnel creative and media efforts. Testing, Learning & Optimization ● Lead development of structured testing roadmaps—AB tests, multivariate tests, personalization experiments—aligned with broader brand and performance goals. ● Work closely with analytics teams to interpret campaign results, isolate drivers of performance, and distill actionable insights. ● Establish feedback loops and learning agendas that improve creative, media, and targeting effectiveness over time. Performance Analysis & Measurement ● Monitor and analyze performance data using dashboards, attribution models, and platform analytics (e.g., Google DV360, Meta, Trade Desk). ● Identify optimization opportunities across creative, media, and targeting—translating analytical insights into strategic pivots. ● Deliver compelling insights and performance narratives to clients and internal teams that drive decision-making and continuous improvement. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Thought Leadership ● Serve as a strategic bridge across creative, media, account, and analytics teams to ensure insights are fully integrated into campaign development and execution. ● Educate internal teams and clients on data strategy best practices, tools, and evolving trends in marketing analytics and personalization. ● Contribute to thought leadership through case studies, presentations, and whitepapers showcasing innovative applications of data strategy. Qualifications Qualifications & Skills Education & Experience ● Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a related field. ● 5+ years of experience in a strategic or data-driven marketing role, ideally within a digital agency, consultancy, or in-house performance marketing team. Technical & Analytical Acumen ● Proficient in SQL, Python, and ETL workflows. Familiarity with APIs, structured data modeling, and cloud data environments is a plus. ● Experience with BI and visualization tools such as Looker, Tableau, Power BI. ● Understanding of ad platforms (DV360, Meta, Amazon DSP), DCO tools (FlashTalking, Innovid), CDPs, and CRM systems. ● Strong ability to translate unstructured or incomplete data into structured, actionable insights. Strategic Thinking & Communication ● Ability to design audience frameworks, test plans, and measurement strategies that tie directly to business goals. ● Exceptional communication and storytelling skills—able to simplify complexity and influence stakeholders across disciplines. Collaboration & Leadership ● Skilled at navigating matrixed environments and balancing long-term strategy with in-market execution. ● A collaborative mindset with a bias for clarity, proactivity, and outcome-oriented thinking.
