Job Description

NBC Boston is seeking a Freelance Assignment Desk Editor. This is a part-time project/limited term position with an estimated duration of up to 8-12 months, unless otherwise amended or terminated as deliverables within this project are completed.

Enterprise story ideas for coverage and interview subjectsAssign crews to news stories and provide support for complete coverage, including research, contact information, phone calls, video etc.Coordinate feeds and media sharing with affiliatesMonitor all changing and developing news stories from news wires, social media, scanners, contacts, public relations, phone calls,  and viewer suggestions Communicate with production staff and management on the status of coverage and storiesEstablish network of contacts and sources across the Boston DMAOther duties and responsibilities as assigned

QualificationsPrior experience at an assignment desk.Prior experience in local news coverage.Strong writing skillsStrong research skills.Basic computer skills.

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferredStrong resources and contacts in the communityAbility to solve problems, prioritize decisions and act decisively under stress and tight deadlines.Strong ability to assign, direct and supervise broadcast news coverage.Ability to gather stories from different platformsAbility to communicate through social media to specific individuals to corroborate storiesAbility to search topics on social media and digital platformsSolid news judgment and awareness of local and national news.Must have the ability to communicate clearly and concisely with coworkers and community.

Eligibility Requirements:
