To reach these objectives, Barry Callebaut has launched an ambitious target towards forest protection, as well as large scale agroforestry programs in multiple cocoa and palm-exporting Origins (Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cameroon, Nigeria, Ecuador). The Program Manager for Forest and Climate will be in charge of overseeing the conception and Implementation of both Forest Protection and Agroforestry programs
Key Responsibilities include
Select and / or design relevant forest protection projects in areas where cocoa expansion is proven to generate deforestation (12-20 projects) in order to generate lasting risk mitigation strategies, in line with the company’s “Forest Positive” Target and EUDR compliance strategy;
Oversee the implementation of our global agroforestry program in close collaboration with our origin teams and external partners. Implement and further develop our implementation model and roadmap for agroforestry;
Regularly report progress on agroforestry and forest protection to internal stakeholders and support external reporting to customers and other stakeholders;
Support the further development of our climate-related customer offering in order to increase funding available to the agroforestry and forest protection programs. This includes support to our customer-facing team during meetings and their preparation
Support the further development and execution of our wider Thriving Nature strategy: as member of the corporate TN team, help to shape our global strategy on climate and nature and support its execution also beyond agroforestry and forest protection
About you
PhD or MSc degree in natural resource management, forestry or agronomy
10 years’ experience in developing and implementing agroforestry and / or sustainable forest management programs (on-site presence required)
Excellent English & French language skills
Experience in collaborating with corporations in sustainability commitments
In-depth understanding of land use and deforestation related set of problems
In-depth understanding of forest protection, sustainable forest management best practices, and agroforestry best practices
Ability to operate in international & multicultural environments
Focus on people and ability to bring different stakeholders together
Ability to work closely with large and complex remote teams, without hierarchical authority
