Forensic Accountant

The Forensic advisory services (FAS) division of Sedgwick are our experts in measuring economic loss. They work extensively with both our loss adjusting colleagues and external parties, such as lawyers, to measure the value of commercial losses. Their work is varied and diverse and includes exposure to claims across a wide range of industries such as retail, hospitality, food production and manufacturing. Examples of their work includes:

Investigating and quantifying claims for business interruption (loss of profit)

Measuring and valuing large stock losses

Investigating and quantifying employee fraud

Measuring losses stemming from events such as cyber-attacks and product recalls

Preparing expert witness reports for matters in dispute


The FAS team in New Zealand is seeking to add an additional forensic accountant/financial loss adjuster. The candidate will ideally be based in our Auckland-Newmarket office, but an outstanding candidate could work remotely from anywhere in the country.

This is an entry-level protégé role into forensic accounting/financial loss adjusting.  On the job training and mentoring would be supplied from senior FAS team members and further studies in insurance loss adjusting would be encouraged. It would suit a candidate who has 2-4 years’ experience in accounting roles within audit, insolvency, commerce or analytics and is ready to apply these skills to the specialist field of forensic accounting/financial loss adjusting.


 

Desired skills and qualities for this role include:

Degree qualified and in the process of becoming a CA or similar

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel including ability to build financial models

Ability to multi task as the role involves working on, and balancing, a case load of claims

Highly developed interpersonal skills, both written and verbal

Would describe themselves as “financially curious”: a critical thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills

A desire to contribute to business development and a passion for customer service

Naturally enthusiastic and collaborative in the team
