The Spartanburg operation is a state-of-the-art coffee roasting and pod packaging facility in addition to hosting a full beverage distribution center. Spartanburg is the largest KDRP manufacturing and distribution location. The site will operate on the foundational principles of TPM (Total Productive Maintenance); leverage the principles of Lean manufacturing and harness the power of High-Performance Teams. All associates at the Spartanburg site will have accountability to a functional business unit in addition to the full site operation. The site will run on state-of-the-art enterprise IT and manufacturing execution systems with highly automated processing, packaging, and material movement equipment.
The Food Safety Leader is responsible for maintaining ISO 22000 (FSSC 22000) Food Safety Certification for the Spartanburg Site, and for ensuring all prerequisite programs and food safety program elements achieve the highest standards of compliance. The Spartanburg Food Safety Leader will work with the site leadership team to implement GFSI-compliant Prerequisite Programs, create documentation, lead the Food Safety audit process, and oversee every element of Food Safety certification. This is a unique opportunity for a Food Safety professional to both develop and maintain a Food Safety Program and set the benchmark standard by which other sites are measured.
Location: This position is based at our Spartanburg, SC plant.
Responsibilities:
Perform a gap analysis for the Spartanburg site and develop a project plan for certification. Engage with food safety professionals across the Keurig Dr Pepper network; identify and adopt best practices, and ensue Spartanburg efforts are fully aligned with corporate guidelines for certificationPrepare for and host external and 3rd party food safety and/or regulatory audits and visits; respond to audit findings for closure and verification of effectivenessLead in the development of the Food Defense, Food Safety, Food Fraud and Identity Preservation Plans. Collaborate with site leaders to document and implement prerequisite programs such as Pest Control, Layout and Workspace, Cleaning and Sanitizing, Personal Hygiene, Food Defense, and Rework/Recall.Work with certification bodies and establish an appropriate timeline for full site certification; ensure certification is achieved prior to the production of saleable productLead the ISO site steering team; ensure site leadership has the knowledge and authority to make decisions and devote resources to Food Safety compliance; develop a cadence for continuous evaluation of the effectiveness of the Food Safety Management System Develop an internal audit process and effective tools for monitoring compliance, assessing food safety culture at the site; develop a corrective and preventive action process and ensure findings are addressed with permanent solutionsCreate mandatory Food Safety Management System process documents as required by FSSC 22000, and ensure Food Safety Management is referenced as appropriate in all site SOPs and work documentsConduct food safety risk assessments on new equipment, new processes, and as required to determine if controls must be implemented to ensure the safety of raw materials, in-process and finished product.Work with the Quality Leader to ensure the Corrective and Preventive Action process is highly effective in the resolution of food safety nonconformances. Employ the use of effective root cause analysis tools, and lead/facilitate teams to find and execute sustainable solutions.Develop site Food Safety leading indicators so that Business Units may quickly identify gaps and implement improvements. Develop a non-punitive approach to finding opportunities for improvement; drive a healthy, engaged food safety culture at every level in the organizationDevelop and deliver Food Safety training and support the operations team by creating a culture of food safety excellence for ALL Business Units and maintenance teams. Develop food safety competencies and skills within these functions through standardized processes, training and auditingTotal Rewards:
Compensation: This is an exempt, salaried position paid on a biweekly cycle. Compensation is flexible and determined by the candidate's experience level. Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology or related technical field is preferred3 years of experience in food safety role in a GFSI-compliant and FDA-regulated plant (FSSC 22000, SQF, or BRC)PCQI, FDQI or HACCP Certification requiredDeep understanding of FDA Compliance and new Food Defense requirementsWorking knowledge of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA)Experience in obtaining first-time Food Safety management system certification (FSSC 22000, SQF or BRC) a plusWorking knowledge of Food Safety Prerequisite Program requirementsCompetency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with SAP or similar manufacturing data systems
