Overview ... Manage the day-to-day operations of the Food Processing Technology Center. Provide strategic leadership and tactical direction to ensure the FPTC remains a world class facility. Ensure the assets and resources are effectively deployed to deliver maximum return on overall investment. Responsible for the development, application, and documentation of food processing techniques and/or technology as it pertains to the various testing activities. Work closely with cross-functional teams, including customers, R&D, marketing, and applications, to bring new processes from concept to market. Coordinate with Sales personnel and Customers on matters of product testing, results expected, and details of final report. The Opportunity ... Able to effectively manage and supervise all direct reports by providing leadership and direction through planning, executing, and reviewing goals and expectations on a regular basis. Manage capital equipment of the FPTC by recommending, requesting, and properly disposing. Develop and implement safe operating guidelines for all FPTC operations and review on a regular basis with staff to ensure compliance. Work with leadership developing long range plans and vision for the FPTC to ensure continued successful execution of mission critical objectives. Have familiarity with all key operating parameters of all equipment in the FPTC to be able to provide guidance and direction to customers to help optimize equipment performance. Work with Product Specialists, Product Line Managers, Segment Leaders, and Engineering to make sure the FPTC staff is fully conversant on all aspects of all JBT-Marel products in the portfolio. Maintain and monitor an effective “Customer Satisfaction Survey” to monitor performance on key parameters from the “voice of the customer.” Maintain detailed records of experiments, formulations, and processes. Prepare usage reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders. Provide input for scheduling of all tests and activities conducted in the FPTC. Interface with customers, Account Managers, Food Technologists, Engineering, Applications, and Tech Center staff. Participate in the planning, interviewing, and management of the FPTC summer internship program. Assists in the development & delivery of scholarly works describing various activities of the FPTC, findings related to food processing and food safety or other topics of relevance to our customers, colleagues, & management. Provides leadership in programs of research and development. Participates in discussions with colleagues regarding the development of new food processes and process interactions within the JBT-Marel product profile. Design and develop processing techniques for new food products, formulations, and recipes. Improve existing processes based on market trends and customer feedback. Optimize food processing techniques to improve yield, reduce waste, and enhance product consistency. Actively participates in the planning, execution, and follow-up of product demonstrations, tests and/or technical discussions with customers, suppliers, and colleagues. Reviews features/benefits and functions of equipment for guests. Explain, in detail, test procedures and/or protocols. Additional responsibilities to be assigned as needed. Why work at JBT ... Familiarity with the application of JBT-Marel equipment, especially equipment within the Processed Food segment Basic understanding of Food Plant sanitation and safe food handling GMP’s and chemical usage. Strong oral and written communications skills with all levels of employees Experience with multi-media presentation preparation. Ability to author technical reports and presentations. Computer skill expertise in spreadsheet, word processing, relational database, presentation, and MS Outlook software applications required. Syteline and UKG experience a plus. Ability and willingness to travel Experience and/or familiarity with steam boilers, ammonia refrigeration systems and thermal oil heaters. Knowledgeable with industrial electrical systems, process piping and plumbing. Strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS & DIRECTION/GUIDANCE: This position reports to: Senior Director Commercial PF - Sales Number of Direct & Indirect Reports: 6-7 WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Work Environment: Primarily clean laboratory or office conditions, occasionally loud equipment noise and high moisture levels. Exposed to possible hazards including heavy equipment, slippery footing, cold/hot temperatures, etc. Spend approximately 50% of the time in an office or meeting environment, 40% of time working in the FPTC test area, and 10% travel to customers, suppliers, and other JBT-Marel locations. Physical Demands: Frequent sitting and operating computer. Some lifting of materials, ingredients and substrates and moving of equipment.
