Course Description

The School of Social Work Flourish Office at the University of Michigan is seeking one (1) 50% (0.50 FTE; 20 hours/week) Graduate Student Staff Assistant (GSSA) to work with the office and assist with implementing the School's activities. The primary responsibilities will be program development, facilitation, and administrative support. This position requires on-site work in Ann Arbor, MI, at the School of Social Work 

Responsibilities*Support the Flourish staff in developing a specialized training program for social work practice in higher education.Create training modules for MSW students on best practices within higher education settings.Develop an evaluation tool for a specialized training program for social work practice in higher education.Develop and participate in Flourish Office events, including identifying presenters, public relations/marketing, and session facilitation focused on macro social work practice. Create materials (agendas, handouts, etc.) for workshops and major programs.  Review student applications for grants and support grant consultations with SSW students, staff, and faculty.Revise, write, and edit a variety of written communications to ensure digital accessibility (newsletters, office promotional materials, reports etc.)Perform related office work such as data entry, data management, creating process documents, mass mailings, and responding to email  Provide administrative support to Flourish Office events, including marketing, registration, set-up, break-down, etc.
 Required Qualifications*Applicants must be currently registered in a graduate program at U-M. The work described above for this position must be considered academically relevant by the department or degree program in which the student is enrolled.  Familiarity and experience with the social work profession, its ethics, and core values. Workshop and/or event planning and facilitation experience. Ability to handle multiple projects.  Ability to collaborate in a team staffing approach on various efforts. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, prioritization, and follow-through. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work and communicate effectively and professionally with the University community as well as external constituents. Ability to work collaboratively and independently, as the task requires.Demonstrated competency with modern computer productivity and digital accessibility tools, including word processing,  spreadsheets, databases, and presentation programs. NOTE: SOME FLEXIBILITY OF SCHEDULED WORK HOURS IS REQUIRED,  INCLUDING EVENINGS OR WEEKENDS ON A PRIOR SCHEDULED BASIS.  
 Desired Qualifications*In addition to the required qualifications listed above, successful candidates will have the ability to work, problem-solve, and make decisions with limited supervision. Excellent organizational skills, demonstrated ability to prioritize, work under pressure to meet deadlines, attention to detail, and thorough and reliable follow-through while handling multiple projects simultaneously. Experience with issues in graduate education, student development, leadership development, and relevant issues in higher education. An understanding of the challenges faced by underrepresented populations in higher education. Previous project management and course development experience. Previous experience developing resource materials with an understanding of digital accessibility. Skills in graphic design, photography, video production, and competence with social media  (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.). Basic data analysis and familiarity with Qualtrics. 
 Modes of Work

Decision Making Process

The hiring decision-making process for the FLOURISH GSSA will be based on a candidate?s demonstrated commitment to higher education and alignment with the mission and vision of the FLOURISH Office and the School of Social Work. Applications will be reviewed to identify individuals who are passionate about fostering student success and well-being in academic environments. The selection process will prioritize candidates whose values and experiences reflect the goals of FLOURISH and who show potential to contribute meaningfully to the development of initiatives that support justice-driven higher education spaces. Candidates will participate in an interview with at least one program manager and be asked to provide additional information about their experieicnes and skills and respond to two scenario-based questions to evaluate supervision needs and ability to work within the expectations of the team.
