FLOOR MAINTENANCE WORKER I
DEFINITION
Performs a variety of semiskilled to skilled floor maintenance tasks as a member of a crew.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
A Floor Maintenance Worker I performs semiskilled to skilled floor maintenance duties of a routine and less complex nature.
A Custodian I performs a wide variety of custodial and maintenance work maintaining assigned buildings and grounds in a clean, sanitary, and safe condition.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
General supervision is provided by the Assistant Operations Coordinator or the Operations Coordinator.
No supervision is exercised over District personnel.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Cleans, shampoos, steams, extracts, waxes, and polishes various tile, linoleum, and carpet flooring.
Diagrams room layout, moves furniture and storage/file cabinets, and resets per diagram of room after floor maintenance.
Removes dirt and blemishes from floors using various cleaning solvents and compounds according to composition of floor.
Applies paste or liquid wax to floor with rags or machine.
Polishes floor with electric polishing machine or weighted brush.
Performs related work as required.
CLASS QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Methods, materials, and equipment used in cleaning various types of floor surfaces.
Safe work practices.
Ability to:
Follow schedules and procedures.
Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Operate floor maintenance and cleaning equipment.
Be insured at standard vehicle liability and property damage insurance rates and maintain insurability.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Minimum Requirements:
One year of custodial maintenance experience, including floor maintenance care.
Desirable:
Written and oral proficiency in a second language.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
Possession of a valid State of California Class C driver's license.
