Job Title: Flight Software Systems Architect

Job Description

This position involves leading the definition of concepts of operations (CONOPS) and analyzing flight software requirements, design, integration, and verification processes. You will manage requirements and perform gap analysis using tools such as Windchill or Jama, and coordinate flight software issue resolution across various programs and platforms.

ResponsibilitiesSupport flight software architecture, design, integration (both SIL and HIL), and testing with the prime contractor.Analyze flight software integration in test environments and verification facilities.Define system- and subsystem-level fault detection, isolation, and recovery (FDIR) strategies.Collaborate with operations to define contingency scenarios and align FDIR strategies with mission needs.Oversee FDIR test planning and execution on FlatSat, DSS, and spacecraft.Review Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECAs) and ensure effective failure detection and recovery strategies.Align operations documentation with FDIR strategy and support Interface Control Document (ICD) development for hardware, software, and databases.Lead delivery of satellite database products to customers and operations centers.Review FDIR test results and support resolution of non-compliances.Develop verification and validation matrices for flight software and FDIR requirements.Support in-orbit testing, anomaly resolution, and operational readiness.Essential SkillsBachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a relevant field.At least 20 years of relevant practical experience, which can be supplemented with higher degrees relevant to engineering.Previous experience with Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellite systems.Strong cross-functional team collaboration and architecture definition abilities.Experience in analyzing satellite systems and subsystems.Familiarity and experience with FMECAs and/or Fault Tree Analysis.Understanding of how failures can propagate through a system.Ability to decompose system-level requirements to software requirements.Knowledge of satellite flight software and how monitors work for FDIR.Knowledge of how to test hardware and software for FDIR.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience in constellation creation.Creation of Fault Trees and FMECAs.Experience with reliability analysis.Working knowledge of Packet Utilization Standard (PUS) services.Experience mentoring junior engineers.Experience with FDIR on embedded systems.Knowledge of MS Excel for engineering analyses.Knowledge of requirements management tools such as DOORS, Windchill, and Jama.Demonstrated capability to work efficiently with little to no supervision.Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, knowledge of French is favorable.Work Environment

This is a remote opportunity with 20-25% international travel

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $75.00 - $120.00/hr.
