Downer’s RTS business is responsible for the Through Life Support (TLS) of Sydney Trains’ Waratah and Sydney Growth Trains (also known as Waratah Series 2) passenger fleets at AMC. The fleets were designed and built by Downer, entering revenue service in 2011 and 2018 respectively. Combined, they consist of a total of 119 x 8-car double-deck trains, making it the largest fleet of passenger trains in Australia.
Downer RTS is looking for a driven Fleet Manager to manage all aspects of the NSW Waratah and SGT passenger fleets and will be the nominated contact point to internal and external stakeholders.
The Fleet Manager is a senior role within the TLS team, that oversees the delivery of asset management services for their allocated rollingstock fleet. The role is responsible for all associated aspects of performance, including but not limited to, commercial (P&L), client relationship, fleet technical performance, operational performance, contract compliance and subcontractor management. A key part of the role will be to make decisions in the best interest of the organisation, considering various factors and trade-offs in performance. The role will report directly into the General Manager – Fleet Management and also regularly act as the Contractor’s Representative in their absence.
The Fleet Manager will have a team of professionals to support the role including engineering, procurement, contract administration and commercial functions. The role will also closely interact with the depot operations and planning functions to achieve strong performance outcomes.

About you:
Tertiary qualifications in business, engineering or a related discipline
Post-graduate degree in business or a related discipline (preferred)
Prior experience in P&L ownership, preferably of $100M per annum or more
Knowledge of contemporary rollingstock asset management practices or similar industries (defence, aerospace, etc.)
Experience in working with government clients (or similar)
Confident presenter and leader, including in a client facing environment
Results driven, with a proven ability to lead, guide and motivate a team of cross-functional professionals
Strong commercial acumen, including experience with negotiating and resolving contract disputes and/or variations both upstream and downstream
Ability to manage risks and opportunities and drive a continuous improvement culture within the team
Ability to work in accordance with Downer’s values and demonstrate commitment, active involvement and leadership regarding zero harm and the safety of all clients, employees and other stakeholders.
