Position classification Onsite -- Job duties and expectations require employee to be regularly scheduled onsite. + Description + Benefits + Questions What Success Looks Like In This Job Perform a variety of semi-skilled duties involved in making minor and some major mechanical repairs to automotive equipment and heavy equipment, including light construction and other power-driven equipment, under the direction of a skilled technician. The anticipated hiring range for this role is $ 42,016.00 - $48,318.40. The full salary range for the role is $ 42,016.00 - $58,822.40. Examples of Duties for Success Perform the following duties under direct supervision: + Working with skilled technician to inspect, diagnose, repair, and locate mechanical difficulties on county vehicles and equipment; perform minor repairs of equipment, engines, and other major drive train components. + Diagnose, maintain, and learn repair skills for electrical system components, ignition systems, computer and electronic controls, microprocessors, alternators, high voltage power generators, starters, and batteries. + Only with the guidance of a skilled technician, diagnose, maintain, repair, and recondition hydraulic systems and high-pressure water systems, including pumps, valves, rams, hoses and motors. + Diagnose, maintain, and repair high-pressure air systems, including rebuilding of pumps, valves, cylinders, and hoses. + Diagnose and repair chassis, steering assemblies, transmissions, rear end assemblies, and other mechanical components. Diagnose and repair front and rear drive axles, drive train components, belts, gears, chain drives, and propeller shafts, all under direct supervision of skilled technicians. + Become A/C Certified, then diagnose and repair air conditioning systems; repair vacuum and electronic controls for air delivery and compressor operation. Diagnose and repair fuel injection systems in diesel and gasoline applications. Diagnose and repair tracks and rollers on heavy, earth-moving equipment. Diagnose and repair conveyors and related equipment. + Repair and replace components such as generators, distributors, relays, lights, switches, and high voltage light systems. + Repair, adjust, and replace brake systems including wheel cylinders, master cylinders, disk pads, machine drums and rotors, and hydraulic and air brakes, after becoming air brake certified. + Repair and replace tires; check and adjust vehicle alignment. + Repair and maintain sanders, plows, and related snow removal equipment and systems. + Install public safety equipment on county vehicle including light bars, insignias, and numbers, radios, and antennas. + Learn to weld, fabricate, and assemble parts and equipment for county vehicles and equipment; fabricate, modify, and repair body and chassis parts. Weld, braze, solder, and cut steel, stainless steel, and aluminum by torch, electric arc, mig welder, and plasma cutter; manufacture components to improve the operation of equipment. + Perform preventative maintenance inspections and repairs on vehicles and equipment. Perform daily and annual vehicle safety inspections; perform vehicle emission inspections; perform necessary repairs. + Maintain and repair shop equipment including hoists, grinders, welders, compressors, steam cleaners, and presses. + Maintain cleanliness of work area and tools; ensure compliance with established, county approved safety procedures, and other various shop housekeeping duties including sweeping, washing bay floors and taking out trash. + Assist with transporting vehicles to vendors or home locations as needed. Perform the following light work duties without direct supervision: + Assist with tire changes, battery replacements, wiper blade replacements, and other semi-skilled tasks. + Maintain work, time, and material records using the automated shop management system. + Assist other technicians in the performance of mechanical repairs, as required. + Learn to operate forklift and unload trucks as needed. + Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required. Supervisory Responsibilities: + None. Qualifications for Success + Utilize all tools, equipment, and procedures used in the overhaul, repair, and adjustment of gas and diesel powered equipment. Use procedures of electrical/electronic diagnosis. Operate technical diagnostic equipment and the full range of equipment necessary to perform assigned duties. + Engage in procedures of preventive maintenance related to automotive heavy and light construction equipment. Understand the operating and repair characteristics of a wide variety of automotive light and heavy equipment used in the county. Perform journey level equipment mechanical work, including the diagnosing, troubleshooting, fabricating and repairing of vehicles and equipment. + Understand and apply principles and procedures of hydraulic systems, high-pressure air systems, and high-pressure water systems. Understand appropriate operation and care of internal combustion engines and hydraulic equipment. + Utilize the methods, materials, equipment, and tools for welding and fabrication work. Provide own tools. + Learn and maintain knowledge of pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations. + Acknowledge operational hazards and apply standard, county approved safety practices necessary in the area of assigned work. Operate automobiles and heavy equipment safely. Implement safe driving principles and practices. + Maintain a variety of shop and repair records, including the FASTER Fleet Management Program. + Accurately determine mechanical repair needs and estimate the cost and time of repairs. + Computer Skills: Operate computer and County supported software. + Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Understand and follow oral and written directions. Read and understand various manuals, blueprints, and schematics. + Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. + Eventually work independently in the absence of supervision. More Qualifications for Success Experience: + A desire to learn about vehicle maintenance and an aptitude for vehicle and mechanical knowledge. + 6 months of automotive or heavy equipment is preferred but not required. Education and Training:High school diploma or GED equivalent or working on the same. License or Certificate: + Appropriate valid Driver's License. A current copy of applicant's motor vehicle record must be provided at time of interview. + Possession of, or the ability to obtain within 2 years of hire, a valid Colorado Commercial Driver's License, Class B. + After two (2) years of work experience, obtain and maintain one (1) required ASE certification. Background Check: Must pass a criminal background check. Other: + Adams County is required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations to conduct pre-employment drug screens, background checks, and motor vehicle record checks. + A successful candidate must pass all of the above, including a DOT physical. + Respond to service calls and work during snowstorms as scheduled. + Operate automobiles and heavy equipment safely. Must implement safe driving principles.
