Essential Duties:
Lay-out, fit-up, burn, arc gouge, plasma cut, grind and weld as necessary to form components to meet required finish dimensions. This may require length adjustment based on material. Prepare cutouts as necessary to meet drawing weld bevel requirements and standards. Grind weld material left by knockoffs as required to clean the part to standards. Set up and performs jobs based on engineering drawings, shop practices, and procedures. Perform internal quality check using appropriate measuring gauges and experience. Perform assigned tasks in a safe manner, following EHS requirements relating to PPE and Safe Working Practices. Performs Heli arc welding, submerged arc welding, and manual welding on components as assigned. Weld tube in tube sheets. Welds tube caps with Heli arc welder. Performs root passes tube sheets to shells. Performs internal quality control of welding procedures. Performs grinding and/or cleaning of welds as necessary to achieve standards. Corrects welds as necessary. Sets up and performs jobs based on shop practices and procedures. Controls own welding supply usage. Measures and directs the fitting of shell assemblies. Aids crane operator by visual and vocal signals when parts/assemblies are positioned or lifted. Perform various QC duties. Use broom and other cleaning equipment to maintain the work area in a clean, orderly environment. Assists in the tool room with documentation, record keeping, and answering employee questions. Assists in handing out welding rods/equipment and record keeping. Shipping and receiving material record keeping. Performs other duties and welding methods assigned by supervision.QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an apprenticeship or vocational training in fitting and welding. Proven experience in fitting and welding, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Skills and Certifications:
Ability to read and write English language to read weld procedures and fabrication drawings and requirements. Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings. Strong knowledge of welding techniques and fitting practices. Ability to operate welding equipment and tools safely. Familiarity with safety protocols and regulations in industrial environments. Certifications in welding and fitting are advantageous. Heat exchanger or field fabrication experience preferred.
Required Tools:
Hood, steel measuring tape, wire cutters, ball pein hammer, hex key wrenches, gloves, tape, square & center head, approved level, center punch, dividers, adequate toolbox.
Optional Tools- More advanced professional layout tools.
Working Environment:
Noisy, cold, hot, dusty, requires 50 lb. lifting ability, climb, stoop, bend, reach, squat, work in unusual positions, exposed to welding fumes, and exposed to normal shop hazards.
