Duties Description This position will assist with several aspects of the regional wildlife program including but not limited to: conducting wildlife surveys, collecting and preparing wildlife carcasses for submission to the states wildlife health program, pelt sealing of furbearers, stocking of captive raised pheasants, assistance with CWD sample collection, habitat management work on state lands, and deer aging. During the winter months this positions primary focus will be on an intensive furbearer survey for otter and muskrat sign. Duties will include obtaining landowner permissions to access survey locations, navigating to unfamiliar locations scattered over an 11-county area, walking 1/2 mile in winter conditions several times a day along wetlands, ponds and streams looking for scat and tracks, maintaining accurate data collection of site specifics and all sign found.
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.Preferred Qualifications: Skilled in animal sign identification and GPS use. Comfortable with working and navigating in cold, snow and on ice covered wetlands.
Additional Comments This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 3/31/2026. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date. Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.Must be able to work in remote areas.Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
