Get to Know Your Team: Lovelace Westside Hospital provides care to Albuquerque’s Westside and Rio Rancho, including a 24-hour emergency department and a wide range of inpatient and outpatient surgical capabilities such as Ear Nose and Throat (ENT), bariatric and orthopedic service lines. Responsibilities Registered Nurses practicing as first assistants in surgery are functioning in an expanded perioperative nursing role. First assisting activities are further executed within the context of the nursing process and in accordance with the State Board of Nursing Practice and institutional policies. RNFA activities commonly include: assisting the surgeon with exposure, hemostasis, closure and other intra-operative technical functions under the supervision of a surgeon. Other activities may include certain delegated medical functions that can be assumed by the RN who is qualified to practice as an RNFA. A RN license is required as well as RNFA Certification through the AORN Training/Certification Program. Qualifications Job Requirements: Associate’s Degree in Nursing or Diploma of Nursing and RNFA Certification through AORN. 3 years of RN experience and 2 years of RNFA experience. The 2 years of RNFA experience may be part of the 3 years of RN experience. Valid NM Nursing license. Require BLS. Successful completion of an RNFA program through AORN with Certification. Preferred Job Requirements: Technical training as a Scrub Nurse or Scrub Technician.
