Firmware Engineer

Job Summary 

The successful candidate will plan, design, develop and implement firmware from inception to deployment, for microcontrollers for use in industrial I/O type devices that work with protocols like (CAN, Profinet, IOLink, ASI5 etc). The candidate will be responsible for firmware design, project status reporting and meeting development schedules and achievements including development and execution of testing and validation plans and participating in code reviews. Additionally, the position requires that all development practices are in compliance with standard methodologies for code development, reuse and portability, as well as documentation, bug tracking and maintaining all records and metrics related to the software development process.

 In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

Plan, design, and develop firmware for microcontrollers used in industrial I/O type devices. Ensure firmware solutions meet project requirements and are compatible with specified protocols. Handle the entire firmware development lifecycle from inception to deployment. Provide project status reports and ensure development schedules and achievements are met. Develop and complete testing and validation plans to ensure firmware reliability and functionality. Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and maintainability. Ensure all development practices carry out to standard processes for code development, reuse, and portability. Maintain documentation, bug tracking, and records related to the software development process.

For This Role, You Will Need:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Electronics Engineering, Electrical, or related field. Proven experience in firmware development for microcontrollers, preferably in industrial settings. Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++ for embedded systems. Experience with industrial communication protocols such as CAN, Profinet, IOLink, ASI5, etc. Strong understanding of firmware design principles and standard processes. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with multi-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications that Set You Apart:

Master’s degree or equivalent experience in electronics engineering, Electrical, or related field. Experience with firmware development tools and IDEs (e.g., Keil, IAR Embedded Workbench). Familiarity with hardware design and debugging. Knowledge of Agile development methodologies. Prior experience in the industrial automation or control systems industry.
