Firewall Engineer

At GDIT, people are our differentiator. We are seeking a Firewall Engineer for our Healthcare Integrated General Ledger Accounting System (HIGLAS) program with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). 


As a Firewall Engineer supporting CMS HIGLAS, you will be responsible for providing Firewall operations, and project support for a high-level government program. The candidate must be familiar with Firewall concepts and technologies, including routing and switching. They will develop, support, and maintain operations of Cisco Firewall technologies within the environment and associated sub-systems including, moves, adds, and changes, fault isolation and resolution. They will also be responsible for the integration of new components into existing infrastructure including system management tools, logging, and reporting capabilities.

HOW A FIREWALL ENGINEER SR ADVISOR WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:

Provide analysis, research, and support to complex problems and processes Responsible for the development, configuration, and maintenance of the HIGLAS FirewallsProvides firewall engineering and subject matter expertise for the HIGLAS network architecture (e.g., 3-zone, Out of Band, routing, NAT)Creates and updates Network Firewall Architectural DiagramsEnsures tools are configured to maintain the firewall infrastructureProvides input for reports to Operations Manager such as capacity management, project status, ticket status, and trend analysisCoordinates activities for the Network & Firewall teamEnsures Network Firewall Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are being metManages the Service Now (SNOW) queue for Firewall requests to include CRs, INCs, PRBs and RITMsCreates and maintains Firewall Standard Operating Processes and Procedures Attends CMS customer meetings and provides statusMaintain documentations, SOPs in all areas of the Firewalls Perform On-call support as part of team rotationProvide weekly status reports  Plan and implement Firewall configuration changes following strict change management process to ensure no downtime or impact to the critical infrastructure or applicationsWork with vendor support engineers on escalation and ticket resolution, root cause analysisResponsible for participating in the HOM Risk Management Process through risk and issue identification and resolutionTravel (10%) to customer sites may be required.


WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of related experience as outlined below, or equivalent combination of education and experience.10+ years of Firewall engineering and administration experience 10+ years of experience configuring Cisco Firepower, Fortinet and Palo Alto FirewallDemonstrated understanding of the Cisco Network Firewall infrastructure and best practices Experience with SNOW (ServiceNow) Incident and Service Request management workflowExperience with LAN/WAN Firewall equipment and protocols such as, but not limited to BGP, 802.1Q, LACP including Nexus vPC, TCP/UDP, IPv4, IPv6, HSRP, STP, LLDP, NTP, DNS, DHCP, Ethernet, SNMP, SSH, TACACS, LDAP, and Syslog.Experience with Firewall monitoring tools such as SolarWindsIn-depth understanding of TCP/IP and OSI models

IT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU ALSO HAD:

Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or higher certificationCisco ISE device administration/TACACS+Experience supporting and maintaining Cisco Firepower, Fortinet and Palo Alto Firewalls to include set-up, maintenance, upgrades, and replacement of the latest generation of hardware and software.Knowledge and ability to read packet captures utilizing WireShark or similar toolsExperience with Out-of-Band console servers such as Vertiv AvocentUnderstanding of Splunk queries/searches

CLEARANCE: Ability to pass a CMS background check and meet the residency requirement for having resided in the US at least (3) three out of the last (5) five years in order to obtain a Public Trust.

The likely salary range for this position is $127,254 - $150,650. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
