General Statement of Duties
Eugene Springfield Fire is hiring for Firefighters licensed with an EMT Basic, EMT Intermediate or a Paramedic's license. For a quick preview, click here (https://youtu.be/si9wUxnBjpA) .
As a member of a fire suppression, emergency medical, and life safety team, ESF Firefighter EMTs: participate in a team's response to a wide range of emergencies such as:
+ fire, medical, rescue, and hazardous materials incidents
+ provide basic and advanced-level life support including initial patient assessment, administration of medical treatment, and transport
+ operate specialized equipment, apparatus, machinery, and tools
+ perform fire prevention activities as well as general station duties

Per the current IAFF contract Firefighters also receive the following License Pay
2% for EMT-B license
5% for AEMT license
6% for EMT-I license
10% for EMT-P license

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience and Training
High school diploma and two years experience in firefighting, emergency medicine, or related fields (e.g. military service, public safety, nursing, relevant public service, building construction, heavy equipment operation, etc.); a two-year related degree is desirable. Successful applicants will be required to complete a Eugene Springfield Fire Firefighter EMT training program within the first year of employment.
License or Certificate
Possession of EMT-Basic (EMT-B) or higher at time of application. An Oregon Paramedic's license is preferred and preference will be given to licensed paramedics. National Registry EMT Basic, Intermediate, or Paramedics registered in another state must meet the State of Oregon requirements and are responsible for applying for reciprocity to ensure they have an Oregon license by December 30, 2025. CPAT card
A valid CPAT card (CPAT cards dated from January 1, 2025-current) CPAT cards and letters will only be accepted from current IAFF/IAFC CPAT Licensees (https://www.iaff.org/cpat/#licensing) . We will accept CPAT results that candidates supply from the National Testing Network by December 19, 2025. Upon completion of the CPAT testing (if testing through NTN), candidates will need to forward their passing letters to the Eugene Springfield Fire Department. You may also attach your CPAT card/letter to your application or email it to Jharris@eugene-or.gov once you receive it.
Oregon Driver ’s License (ODL)
Valid Oregon driver’s license, or ability to obtain by date of hire; must pass driving records check and, if hired, maintain a driving record that meets the City’s standard. Oregon law requires that an out-of-state license holder must obtain a valid Oregon license (with appropriate endorsements) within 30 days of becoming domiciled in the state (ORS 803.355).
Eugene Springfield Fire uses a matrix system to determine if a candidate's driving record history meets our requirements. In general, candidates should have no traffic crimes and no more than 2 moving violations in the preceding 5 years.

Eligibility List
This posting may also be used to establish an eligibility list of applicants for future vacancies. Candidates that are placed on the eligibility list will be notified via email which will include the duration of the list and how notification of call up will occur. Any eligibility lists established will be used by both the City of Eugene and City of Springfield. Management will determine which candidates are selected for each City. Candidates will not have an option to select which City they receive an offer from.
Bilingual Pay Benefit
Per the IAFF Contract, the City shall pay an employee equal to 5% of the base rate on base hours excluding overtime. To qualify for bilingual pay, the employee must have demonstrated fluency in the required language and successfully pass a fluency examination administered by the City of Eugene's Employee Resource Center division.
