Fire Protection Specialist - Plant Daniel
Fire Protection Specialist (Plant Daniel) **Fire Protection Specialist & System N Owner (Plant Daniel)** **Job Summary** This position is responsible and accountable for the overall compliance, ensuring a high state of system readiness and reliability, of the fire protection system and all associated equipment for Plant Daniel, as well as the System N water treatment plant and cycle chemistry equipment. These responsibilities include: adherence to SCG-SH-0400 Fire Safety, Fire Prevention and Fire Protection consisting of fire control measures, fire prevention planning, equipment inspection, testing, maintenance, impairment, reporting, and documentation; program management (Combustible Dust, Hot Work); audits/assessments (EH&S, PRB, Property Insurance, and Plant Self-Assessments); Fire Protection System Owner (interfacing with outside agencies (i.e. Jackson County Emergency Management, local fire departments, and emergency response agencies); position includes Water Chemistry System Owner. Additionally, responsibilities involve planning, managing the 5-year budget, overseeing the System N budget, attending lab meetings for system updates, writing condition reports, and collaborating with maintenance to resolve issues. System Ownership includes work prioritization, maintenance strategy, budget, and optimization of warehouse inventory. Note that this position will act as the Primary Safety Specialist backup. **Job Requirements** + Two year or four year degree preferred + 2 or more years of experience in power plant or related industrial facility is required; operations, maintenance, or fuels preferred + Knowledge of the O & M and capital budgeting process desired + Working knowledge of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations strongly preferred + Effective oral and written communication skills + Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work with other plant employees to ensure asset protection + System Owner or project management experience required + Experience in fire ground operations and tactics is highly desirable + Ability to create and maintain good working relationships with local fire departments and emergency response agencies + Be willing to work outside regular business hours and be on call as needed + Must understand the importance of compliance and procedure adherence **Job Responsibilities** + Champion Stop Work culture and support housekeeping efforts + Provide direction on required fire protection maintenance to ensure processes are being followed; and ensure required inspections/checks on all fire protection equipment, including functional testing of critical fire alarm systems + Provide strategic direction of maintenance needs and identify gaps for all fire protection equipment establishing short and long-term goals to ensure integrity of fire protection system + Manage and oversee all aspects of the System N water treatment plant and cycle chemistry + Attend lab meetings for system updates and collaborate with the laboratory team leader on prioritization + Write condition reports and work with maintenance to resolve issues + Fire Protection and Water Chemistry System Owner responsible for monthly budget tracking, monthly projections/variance explanations, and providing information annually for 5-year O&M/Capital budget forecasting + Ensure compliance with all Corporate policies as well as plant-specific procedures/initiatives; and, coordinate all fire protection related audits to include those performed by fire insurance carriers and internal personnel (EH&S) + Provide support and training for plant personnel in Incipient Fire + Ensure required reports (fire incident, maintenance, and impairments) are completed and forwarded per SCG-SH-0400 guidelines + Support team members in the areas of safety, health, and environmental + Coordinate repairs made by plant maintenance personnel and contractors + Identify best practices and/or gaps in current programs, policies, procedures, and equipment and develop appropriate responses + Troubleshoot problems related to Plant Fire Protection Systems + Review and update as necessary the evacuation and emergency action plans for the plant + Participate in event learning critiques and devise improvement strategies after all emergency response incidents **Mississippi Power** , a subsidiary of Southern Company, provides clean, safe, reliable, and affordable energy to more than 192,000 customers and communities in 23 southeast Mississippi counties.
