Fire Protection Engineer (Full Time, Towson)

General Summary:

The Fire Protection Engineer applies engineering principles to protect patients, students, staff, and visitors from fire hazards in a healthcare setting. This position is responsible for designing and implementing fire safety systems, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with fire codes and regulations. Will require travel to other sites as needed. 

Principal Responsibilities and Duties: 

Fire Safety Design and Engineering: Designing and overseeing the implementation of fire protection systems, such as sprinklers, alarms, smoke control systems, and emergency exits, to meet the specific needs of Sheppard Pratt. Risk Assessment: Conducting thorough fire risk assessments to identify potential hazards and vulnerabilities within Sheppard Pratt facilities. Code Compliance: Ensuring Sheppard Pratt complies with all relevant fire codes, regulations, and standards. Consultation and Advice: Providing technical advice and guidance to staff, architects, and other professionals on fire safety matters. Recommends changes to standards and policies. Maintenance and Testing: Overseeing the maintenance, testing, and inspection of fire safety equipment to ensure its proper functioning. Fire Incident Response: May be involved in investigating fire incidents, determining causes, and developing corrective actions. Collaboration: Working with other professionals, such as architects, engineers, and construction managers, to ensure fire safety is integrated into all aspects of the building's design and operations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

Requires a Bachelor's degree in fire protection engineering, fire science, or a related engineering discipline preferred. Requires five years of experience in the field. Basic knowledge of building and NFPA codes Professional certifications, such as the Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) credential preferred. Strong technical skills in fire science, engineering, and design; excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.

Pay for this position is determined on a number of factors, including but not limited to, years and level of related experience.
