EXP is currently searching for a Fire Protection Engineer to support projects for our Chicago Headquarters. This professional engineer will utilize our flexible hybrid model that includes engineering, design, and specification of fire protection systems for our governmental, education, commercial, entertainment market sectors.
What a day at EXP has in store for you
Revit and CAD proficient with fire protection drawingsDevelop sections & riser diagrams and elevations of complex equipment and piping areasDevelop equipment room sizes during SD and DD phasesDetermines content of drawings and specs in order to meet and match the scope of workEdit specifications to reflect the project requirementsSelect and schedule equipment with limited oversightMeet with vendors to determine specification requirements for applicationCritically evaluate contractor pricing and cost estimatesMaintain the Engineering Book for the projectRespond to RFI’s for the project, and accurately review submittalsUnderstand work planning and manage design process to the available hours in work plan on multiple projectsWork with team, project manager and clients to meet scheduled project milestones of multiple projectsSolve installation problems with fire protection systems, travel to the site to resolve issuesPerforms site surveys independentlyCode research to comply with various local codes, and meet with code officialsThorough understanding of many NFPA code sections, IBC, ASHRE, ASME and OSHA, and variations from year to yearWrite new specification sections; develop new details, as required for project needs.Apply risk management procedures daily to minimize exp’s and client’s exposure to problemsEdits and develops scope of work narratives (SD narrative, basis of design, etc.)Writes studies and reports for fire protection systems on various projects.Fire Pump – select pump and accessories for proper pressures, flows, etc. and layout enlarged fire pump room without assistanceFlow Test – ability to direct water flow tests at hydrant or hose connectionUnderstand and apply gas suppression, deluge, pre-action systems, and high-rise designBasic knowledge of Factory Mutual standards and requirementsAnalyzing fire hazards and mitigating fire damage by proper designConstruction coordination/arrangementsFamiliar with building structures, materials,Experience with fire modeling and simulation softwareStrong management and organization skillsExperience in conducting existing fire protection system and risk assessmentsExperience in wet pipe systems per NFPA 13, NFPA 14.
What your experience looks like
4+ years of building fire protection design experience of commercial building projects across multiple industry segments (governmental, education, commercial, entertainment, etc.)Engineering Degree (BS Architectural Engineering, BS Mechanical Engineering, BS Fire Protection Engineering, or equivalent degree) preferredRegistered Fire Protection Engineering (FPE) License or eligible for immediate registrationREVIT MEP and Auto CAD Proficiency.Ability to travel to client meetings and project sites for walk thru activitiesThe pay range for this role is $125,00 to $150,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
