FinOps Engineer
As a FinOps Engineer, you will join our growing team to design and implement automated cloud cost management solutions that drive financial visibility and accountability. Operating at the intersection of infrastructure, finance, and product, you will leverage data, tooling, and automation to optimize cloud spend, enforce governance, and support strategic decision-making. This role requires a solid technical foundation in cloud architecture, scripting, and cost analytics, and includes supporting our evolving hybrid cost management initiatives.

You're a technically skilled engineer with a passion for financial accountability and operational efficiency. You thrive on turning complex usage data into actionable insights and building automation that drives cost optimization at scale.
+ Analytical and detail-oriented with a strong foundation in cloud architecture and cost modeling
+ Passionate about automation, tagging strategies, and cost transparency
+ Experienced in scripting, infrastructure-as-code, and cloud-native tooling
+ Collaborative, data-driven, and focused on continuous improvement
During the first six months, you will:
+ Onboard to Paylocity’s FinOps tooling, tagging strategies, cloud cost and hybrid architecture
+ Analyze cloud usage data (e.g., billing APIs, CUR) to identify inefficiencies, idle resources, and rightsizing opportunities
+ Build cost allocation processes for shared cloud and on-prem platforms to ensure accurate ownership and accountability.
+ Develop automation scripts and serverless functions to detect anomalies, enforce tagging compliance, and reduce waste
+ Standardize tagging policies and automate compliance using cloud-native tools.
+ Implement automated cost controls and guardrails using infrastructure-as-code and policies-as-code
+ Partner with engineering teams to embed cost-efficiency into CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes workloads, and serverless deployments
+ Collaborate with finance to support forecasting, budgeting, and reporting
+ Define and track FinOps KPIs to measure anomaly detection and automation efficiencies
Required Experience:
+ 2+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, DevOps, or FinOps roles
+ 2+ years specifically focused on cloud cost optimization or FinOps
+ Proven experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
+ Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash)
+ Experience with infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation)
+ Familiarity with cloud billing APIs, tagging strategies, and cost allocation models
+ Understanding of Kubernetes, serverless, and containerized workloads
+ Excellent communication skills and ability to influence cross-functional teams
Nice to Have:
+ FinOps Certified Practitioner or similar certification
+ Experience with SaaS cost modeling or multi-tenant architecture
+ Familiarity with FinOps tools such as Ternary, Kubecost, or Quicksight
+ Understanding of enterprise financial processes and accounting basics
Physical requirements:
+ Ability to sit for extended periods: The role requires sitting at a desk or workstation for long periods, typically 7-8 hours a day.
+ Use of computer and phone systems: The employee must be able to operate a computer, use phone systems, and type. This includes using multiple software programs and inquiries simultaneously.

The pay range for this position is $84,200 - $156,100/yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for a restricted stock unit grant based on individual performance in addition to a full range of benefits outlined here Benefits Link (https://px.sequoia.com/prospect/gacc-caf23ca0-0fdc-11f0-8761-139060d2fe23) .
