Summary

Financial Counselor PAR I

Position Highlights:

The Financial Counselor PAR I is tasked with managing a call queue and supporting patients by initiating financial assistance applications, handling self-pay accounts, setting up payment arrangements, processing payments, and addressing billing inquiries related to patient accounts for both hospital and physician billing. This position delivers account status updates to patients and insurance companies to confirm that all potential payment resources have been investigated and utilized.

Additionally, the Financial Counselor PAR I detects any billing or coding problems and directs the issue to the relevant department for resolution.

Responsibilities:

Conducts thorough reviews of patient accounts, including benefits analysis and verification. Establishes payment arrangements in accordance with Moffitt's policies. Initiates screenings for financial assistance applications and processes returned mail. Responds to patient inquiries via phone. Reviews patients' explanations of benefits for compliance with their insurance policies and assesses Moffitt’s payer contract terms for effective account resolution and response to inquiries. Coordinates with funding specialists to explore other available reimbursement programs for patient accounts. Documents all actions taken on accounts as per policy. Provides patients with information about their attended appointments and triages incoming issues to the appropriate department for resolution. Make outbound collection calls on patient accounts that are delinquent Maintain current knowledge of federal poverty and basic Florida Medicaid guidelines.

Credentials and Experience:

High School Diploma/GED Minimum three (3) years' experience working in a healthcare setting with an emphasis in physician/hospital collections, insurance verification, and/or financial counseling* *Two (2) years Moffitt Revenue Cycle experience can be considered in lieu of three (3) years' experience in physician/hospital collections or financial counseling.
