Position Summary:
The Financial Controller is a key member of, and strategic partner to, the VP of Sales and Leadership Team. This role plays a critical part in driving profitable growth by delivering accurate, insightful financial guidance and fostering strong collaboration across Divisions, including Division leadership teams and Division Controllers.
The Financial Controller leads financial planning and analysis processes that support credible long-range planning, annual budgeting, and forecasting closely tied to sales strategies and performance. This role is responsible for creating, analyzing, and communicating product line and customer-level financial results to enable strategic decision-making and drive profitable growth. It also ensures strong month-end close processes and maintains adherence to ITW policies, internal controls, and GAAP standards.
In addition, the Financial Controller oversees the accounting and accounts receivable teams, providing leadership and support to ensure operational excellence, compliance, and strategic alignment.
Core Responsibilities:
Act as a key member of the Leadership Team and a strategic partner to the VP of Sales, driving profitable growth and business performance.
Collaborate closely with Division VPGMs, Division Controllers, Division Marketing teams, Sales, and other functional leaders to align financial planning, forecasting, and business priorities.
Contribute to the vision and implementation of long-range and annual strategic plans, capital investments, acquisitions, restructuring projects and critical ad-hoc opportunities.
Effectively manage, communicate and coordinate the exchange of financial information (plan, actual results, and outlook) to key stakeholders with in-depth knowledge of variances and actionable insights.
Drive a culture of transparency, shared accountability, and collaboration across Divisions and functions to support consistent processes and shared goals.
Partner with Sales Operations and IT to enhance forecasting tools, reporting systems, and data integrity for improved, faster decision-making.
Ensure accurate and timely reporting of business and financial information in compliance with ITW policies and GAAP. Develop and maintain financial reporting processes that exceed audit requirements.
Manage the receivables and accounting teams for a division with a high volume of customer and vendor transactions.
Develop and oversee the SD&A strategy, ensuring cost control, resource optimization, and alignment with Sales Organization and Divisional goals. Establish key performance indicators to track and improve sales growth, forecasts and efficiency.
Guide and mentor the Accounting/Finance team in the creation and execution of SD&A and operational analysis (cost, controls, etc.) to facilitate accurate decisions and strategies.
Develop and lead proficient Accounting/Finance teams focused on profitable growth, improving customer satisfaction and simplifying business processes.
Identify, lead and develop talent to maximize individual, team and organizational effectiveness in meeting company goals. This may include: selecting and on-boarding talent; communicating effectively to foster a culture of engagement, cascading vision, creating goal alignment, and coaching through feedback, development planning and performance management.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance required
CPA and/or Master’s degree in a business field preferred
8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with increasing responsibility
Strong knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections
Demonstrated experience (at least 2 years) managing a direct staff of accounting or finance professionals
An intelligent professional with outstanding written and verbal communication skills, presentation skills and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels
Must be able to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines
Demonstrated accountability for results and understanding of the financial impact of decisions
Excellent knowledge of ERP and BI systems, Microsoft Office software
Demonstrated ability to lead teams, drive cross-functional collaboration, and foster a culture of accountability
Comfortable navigating ambiguity and driving change in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
Strong preference for experience in retail or commercial finance with demonstrated ability to deliver financial insights, forecasting, and performance support to sales organizations
