Job Description
 

The Finance Manager, R&D Portfolio will drive strategic financial analyses and processes for month-end close activities and reporting execution for R&D. The position requires strategy, planning, leadership, and cross-functional partnership for month-end close and planning cycles, along with in-depth drug development finance knowledge. As Gilead continues to evolve, we need to create, execute and support thoughtfully structured processes for a successful month-end close and IPR&D management. This will ensure that we are prepared for Corporate deliverables and set up for effective business partnering with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Development Leadership Team (DLT). The role will report to the Sr Director, R&D ST Portfolio Finance, and will have an enterprise responsibility in being technically strong and partnering across multiple stakeholders within FP&A functions (R&D, PDM, Kite, and Corporate).

Core Responsibilities:

Manage and lead the month-end close for R&D functions, including management review meetings, R&D Close Package, IPE and SOX compliance deliverables, SEC reporting, etc.

Collaborate cross-functionally with FP&A and Controllership to drive month-end close timelines, effectively communicate deliverables, and synthesize key drivers to craft final R&D commentary for Corporate reporting

Own the end-to-end IPR&D process for month-end close and planning cycles, partnering with FP&A, Corporate, Alliance Management, and Controllership

Develop executive-level reports and presentations for CMO’s monthly management reviews

Leverage ERP systems to extract, analyze, and report financial data with advanced system capability

Support ad-hoc analysis and special projects, including completion of annual industry surveys

Proactively identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of financial reporting and analysis

Capabilities and Requirements:

BS or BA is required, and an MBA or CPA is strongly preferred

Minimum of 6 years of finance experience with increasing scope and responsibility, 4 years with an MBA

MBA or Master of Accounting preferred

Management experience is a plus

Prior experience in biotech or pharma in a commercial finance role is strongly preferred

In-depth proficiency in aspects of accounting and finance and knowledge of US GAAP is required

In depth knowledge of, Planning and ERP systems is required with proficiency in Microsoft tools

Experience in high growth, multinational organization is a plus

Relevant experience typically includes budget development, clinical development, or corporate finance within pharma industry

Familiarity with operational tools such as six-sigma, lean, and process mapping a plus

Advanced certification (PMP, etc.) a plus

Change Leadership: The candidate will be an independent self-starter and a proactive team player with a drive to strive for continuous improvement and consistently challenging the status quo.  Will be viewed by business partners and Finance colleagues as a collaborative team member with strong, influencing capabilities, who can also maintain open and transparent communication channels.


 

The salary range for this position is: $136,340.00 - $176,440.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
