Job Description

The Field Technical Manager is essential in supporting the Field Operations team with all live broadcast remotes and events. This Full-Time role is based out of Englewood Cliffs, NJ and reports to our Sr Manager of Field Technology & Production.  This position is part of the Field and Operations team and acts as the on-site manager of all technical operations, which includes crewing, equipment, and outside support services. The Field Technical Manager thrives in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment and collaborates closely with the Production Managers, producers, field staff, and Sr. management to meet the network’s editorial and production goals.

What You’ll Do:

Participate in pre-planning meetings which includes crewing and providing guidance on technical logisticsServe as an onsite technical point person.Interface & work with the Transmission Department to facilitate productionLead and manage all on-site technical operations for live field broadcasts and remote productions, ensuring seamless execution from setup to transmission.Provide on-site engineering support for complex or high-profile field productions as needed, including talent home studios. Manage staffing and scheduling for technical field crews and freelancers, ensuring the right resources are deployed for each assignment.Provide on-site engineering support for complex or high-profile field productions as needed, including talent home studios. Manage the setup, operation, and maintenance of field production equipment including cameras, home studios, lighting, audio, bonded cellular, and satellite uplink systems.Serve as the primary point of contact for all technical needs during field events, collaborating with internal teams (Production, Editorial, Engineering) and external vendors or service providers.Supervise and support technical crews during live shots, breaking news coverage, special events, and large-scale productions.Work closely with Production Managers and producers to interpret production requirements and translate them into efficient technical plans.Oversee logistics for field equipment transportation, set-up, and tear-down, ensuring all assets are maintained and operational.Ensure all field operations comply with safety policies, regulations, and labor agreements where applicable.Identify and resolve technical issues quickly to minimize disruption to live broadcasts.Stay abreast of emerging technologies and recommend upgrades to enhance field operations capabilities.Provide technical leadership, guidance, and training to technical staff and freelancers as needed.

Qualifications

What You Must Have:

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Television Production or equivalent experience.5+ years’ experience in television production with 3+ years with remote productionStrong knowledge of broadcast production equipment, IP/Cellular bonded, satellite transmission, camera systems, audio, lighting, and related technologies.Strong understanding of control room operationsProven experience managing technical crews and coordinating remote production logistics.Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.Ability to thrive in high-pressure, deadline-driven environments and to adapt quickly to changing circumstances in the field while exhibiting great attention to detail and always maintaining a professional attitude.Strong leadership skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with production, editorial, and engineering teams.Valid passport and driver’s license with a clean driving record; ability to drive company vehicles and manage logistics for remote events.Able to travel domestically and internationally at a moment’s notice.Ability to lift and transport production equipment and work outdoors in various weather conditions.Flexibility to work early mornings, late nights, weekends, holidays, and travel on short notice as required.Familiarity with newsroom production systems is a plus.Able to make quick decisions & problem-solve to ultimately support live programmingStrong communication and organizational skillsMust be flexible and able to work all shifts, including early mornings, nights, and weekends.

Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from a designated worksite.
