Key responsibilities
As a Field Service Technician in our Instrumentation division, you serve as the vital link between our technology and our customers.
You will take full responsibility for commissioning, troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance of our innovative products directly on‑site.
With your technical expertise and keen understanding of customer needs, you’ll cultivate long‑term, trusted relationships while uncovering new opportunities for our growth.
You will report directly to the Head of Field Service Instrumentation and work within a dedicated team that supports and challenges you.
You will be mainly accountable for:
Commissioning of measurement technology products, control and instrumentation devices, and process engineering systems (hardware installation, software loading, parameter configuration, functional testing)
Development and coordination of customer-specific maintenance and system check plans
Execution of maintenance and on-site troubleshooting at the customer's location, including replacement of defective components
Preliminary clarification of technical and scheduling aspects with internal departments and customers
Preparation of service assignments by recording fault reports and managing spare parts
Support for international ABB subsidiaries and occasional on-call duty
Qualifications for the role
Completed technician or master craftsman training with a focus on electrical engineering, automation technology, or a comparable field
Several years of experience as a service technician, ideally in measurement technology/instrumentation
Confident handling of PC/laptop and MS Windows 10 as well as MS Office 365 (Outlook, Excel, Word)
Basic knowledge of computer science and network technologies (networking, Ethernet, web servers, fieldbuses such as PROFIBUS, PROFINET, HART, MODBUS)
High willingness to travel within Germany (mostly day or weekly assignments from the ABB base in Minden or from home office)
Fluent in German and English, with a strong service orientation, initiative, and flexibility
