Job Description
The Field Service Technician is responsible for the installation, inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of fire protection systems, including fire alarms, sprinklers, extinguishers, and suppression systems. This role ensures all fire safety equipment is compliant with applicable codes, standards, and regulations. The technician works both independently and as part of a team to complete service calls, troubleshoot system issues, and provide customer support. Attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety are essential for success in this role.
ResponsibilitiesInstall, inspect, test, maintain, and repair fire alarm systems.Perform routine maintenance and functionality tests on all fire protection systems to ensure compliance with local, state, and national fire codes.Identify and troubleshoot system malfunctions and provide accurate solutions in a timely manner.Document all inspections, maintenance, and repair work, including deficiency reports and service records.Coordinate with the office to schedule inspections, provide updates, and explain findings.Maintain proper inventory of parts, tools, and equipment for each job.Respond to emergency service calls and provide on-site corrective action when needed once notified by the office.Ensure all work complies with company policies, safety protocols, and applicable regulations.Stay updated on industry standards, new technology, and product updates through training and certifications.Collaborate with other technicians, electricians, and contractors as needed on large-scale installations or retrofits.Essential SkillsAbility to read and interpret engineering drawings.Low-voltage electronic installation, including bending pipe.Fire alarm systems programming.Electrical troubleshooting and schematic interpretation.Proficiency with hand tools and electronics related to fire protection systems.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with fire protection system installations and service.Ability to collaborate effectively with team members and contractors.Work Environment
Work is done 100% onsite at customer locations. Technicians will work both independently and as part of a team to complete service calls. This role involves traveling in personal vehicles to customer sites and the office to retrieve equipment and materials for each job. Most work will be in the Tri-State area, primarily throughout New Jersey. Candidates are eligible for tolls, gas, and all work-related expenses for work performed out of the state of New Jersey.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $40.00/hr.
