Performs emergency repair, preventative maintenance and installation on a 24/7 on-call basis with regional responsibility for electrical and/or mechanical equipment and systems. Performs on-site preventative maintenance, routine repair, and calibration after installation. Provides technical support and training to customers on operational or maintenance aspects of system equipment. Serves as customer contact on technical and service-related problems. Works under direct supervision and follows detailed guidelines to work on moderately complex repairs and installations. Typically requires 2 years of formal technical training beyond high school and 1-2 years related experience. Individuals at this level are still acquiring skills and knowledge of the products being serviced and/or the testing and calibration equipment being used.We are seeking a skilled and motivated Fiber Optic Technician to support the installation, termination, testing, and maintenance of fiber optic cable assemblies onboard U.S. Navy vessels. The ideal candidate will have prior shipboard experience, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work in demanding environments.Minimum Requirements:High school diploma, GED, or industrial school certificate.Must possess or be able to obtain a SECRET clearance.Must pass a drug test, physical examination, and background check for access to Navy bases, vessels, and associated shipyards.Ability to read, understand, and follow detailed customer work item requirements, technical drawings, and wiring diagrams.Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally.Possess a valid U.S. passport or the ability to obtain one.Physical and Work Environment Requirements:Must be able to walk, stand for long periods, sit, bend, stretch, reach, squat, and twist.Ability to lift, carry, and transport heavy equipment and boxes (minimum 30 lbs.).Must be able to climb ladders, work at heights or in confined spaces, and operate in extreme temperatures and industrial shipboard environments.Ability to work in noisy, hot, humid, or dirty conditions, including over the sides of vessels or in areas with limited accessibility.Must be physically fit and able to meet the demands of shipboard and industrial work environments.Desired Qualifications:2+ years of practical shipboard experience.Background in electronics or a related field. Navy IC/ET/AT/EM rated technicians or graduates of technical trade schools are preferred.NAVSEA Fiber Optic Certification or ability to quickly obtain certification per Navy Standard Item 009-73 and MIL-STD-2042.Ability to install, test, and troubleshoot fiber optic cable assemblies onboard U.S. Navy ships.Proficient in interpreting customer wiring diagrams and technical documentation.Experience using optical test equipment in accordance with military standards.Skilled in documenting and maintaining detailed test and inspection records.Familiarity with setup and calibration of termination and test equipment.Perform other tasks as requested.Work Schedule & Availability:Weekend work, travel, and on-call availability may be required, based on project needs and customer schedules.Flexibility to accommodate extended hours and non-standard shifts is essential.Following receipt of a conditional offer of employment, candidates will be required to complete additional job-related screening processes as permitted or required by applicable law.
