Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Field Construction Inspector with a strong background in electric transmission, distribution, substation projects and related construction activities. The successful candidate will serve as Stantec’s Field Construction Inspector representative to the client, to have oversight, observe, document, report and advise client on construction and inspection activities performed by the Construction Manager (CM). Responsibilities will include coordinating team efforts, assigning tasks, developing detailed day of operations plans, meeting project schedules and ensuring health and safety protocols are implemented.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Field Construction Inspector shall ensure that all CM’s work and inspection is completed in accordance with project drawings, technical specifications, and other requirements of the Client’s Project.
- Field Construction Inspector shall inspect the CM’s construction work.
- Field Construction Inspector shall provide oversight of the CM’s Inspection team and have stop work authority.
- Field Construction Inspector shall maintain detailed written daily records and photographs of observed construction and inspection activities.
- Field Construction Inspector shall verify and document that work is executed according to drawings and specifications.
- Field Construction Inspector shall provide weekly written updates to CLIENT’S’s Projects Leader and Construction Project Leader.
- Field Construction Inspector shall work with CM and CM’s Inspectors to solve construction-related problems and/or concerns.
- Field Construction Inspector shall escalate/confirm all B2H Project changes with the Client’s Engineer of Record, Client’s Project Engineer, Client’s Projects Leader, and Client’s Construction Project Leader.
- Field Construction Inspector shall constructively participate in discussions with CM’s inspectors around project construction methods to ensure conformance with specifications or to expedite work completion. Field Construction Inspector will not direct the CM’s, or its constructor means and methods of construction. If Field Construction Inspector identifies nonconformance work, Field Construction Inspector shall escalate the nonconformance to the highest level of management on site, the CM and Client’s representative.
- Field Construction Inspector shall verify that CM is utilizing the proper materials pursuant to the specifications and drawings.
- Field Construction Inspector shall track installed quantities, percent complete, including access roads, structure pads, foundations, towers, and stringing (wire) in accordance with CM’s schedule of value to support Client’s’s invoice processing.
- Field Construction Inspector shall understand the overall project construction schedule and work with all parties involved to and cooperate to meet the schedule deadlines.
- Field Construction Inspector shall participate in required B2H Project meetings.
- Field Construction Inspector shall ensure CM’s compliance with applicable local, state, and federal ordinances and laws.
- Field Construction Inspector shall prepare detailed, complete, and accurate written reports in a timely manner, describing all events that occur. These reports shall made available to Client’s as described herein.
- Field Construction Inspector shall review the CM’s final record drawings to ensure it represents the final as-constructed transmission line.
- Field Construction Inspector shall coordinate with the environmental inspection team(s) to consult with Client’s as needed on potential schedule impacts.
- Field Construction Inspector shall engage in meetings offering its observations to support the avoidance of potential problems.
- Field Construction Inspector shall maintain good communication and positive relations with the CM Inspectors, CM supervisor, crews, environmental Field Construction Inspectors, landowners, Federal, State and County representatives, and other project Field Construction Inspectors.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Expert in the Inspection of high voltage transmission line construction with over 10 years of documented experiences
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Ability to handle large volumes of work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment Preferred:
- Multiple years of experience on construction project sites or executing construction inspection in the Transmission Power Delivery sector
- History of leading projects through collaborative approach
- Strong health and safety experience and knowledge.
- Business computer skills, such as Microsoft Office Suite Programs (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS-Project, etc.), as well as ability to learn and become proficient in using clients’ required software and applications.
- Must have a good driving record and valid Driver's License.
- Ability to travel away from home 100% of time for the duration of the project.
- Prior to employment with Stantec, this position will require the successful passing of a drug and alcohol screen.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or its equivalent in Business, Construction, Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management or a related field.
A minimum of 10 years relevant project management experience in industry, preferably with electric utility siting, planning, permitting, and construction.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, preferred
OSHA 30 Hour Construction Training
Fall Protection Certification
First Aid/CPR
Energy Isolation Certification, preferred
Excavation and Trenching Safety Certification
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
