Field Application Scientist Lead

This position will lead product development and customer success in identified application areas (mass spectrometry and drug discovery). Beyond generic dispensing platforms for manufacturing and research environments, BioDot is focused on developing and commercializing platforms that offer complete automated workflows. This position requires expertise in customer issue resolution, project management, and technical presentations, but also entails leading internal development team with respect to their specific scientific applications (mechanical engineers, software engineers, and broader FAS support team). The FAS will develop and validate miniaturized traditional assays in drug discovery (high-throughput screening, protein crystallization, direct titration, dose response, and mass spectroscopy). This position requires a strong blend of technical expertise and the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams to drive success and achieve ambitious goals. Job Description Role & Responsibilities (Primary Duties): Application Specific Leadership and Team Support: + Product technical lead, offering guidance, and mentorship for the product development team (mechanical engineers, software engineers, broader FAS support, sales and marketing teams) + Serve as primary organizer for customer issues and resolutions. + Lead projects from initiation to completion. + Present case studies to the relevant teams + Lead Kaizen/Problem-solving events. Technical Expertise: + Demonstrated skills as a drug developer and/or analytical scientist. + Assist with mechanical and electrical inspection and troubleshooting. + Develop application-specific protocols on BioDot products. + Troubleshoot application protocols and instrumentation. + Optimize liquid handling performance, including camera systems. Customer Interaction and Training: + Respond promptly to online technical support inquiries. + Provide basic and advanced software and hardware training. + Independently assist customers in reaching their goals. Cross-Functional Collaboration: + Work as part of a cross-functional global support team. + Collaborate with design engineers, production personnel, service engineers, and sales team members. + Participate in instrumentation requiring Factory and Site Acceptance Testing. + Perform IQ/OQ on instruments. + Independently assist on Customer Support System (FreshDesk) support tickets. + Participate in trade shows, conferences, sales calls, demos, lectures, and presentations. Documentation and Reporting: + Development of internal product requirements (hardware and software/user interface) + Document validated application protocols application support work and customer visits. + Maintain support for existing customers by providing additional application protocols, training, etc. + Contribute to the company knowledge base. Training and Development: + Train new employees. + Contribute to innovative ideas for workflow and instrument improvement. + Train customers on instrument operation and maintenance. + Develop and deliver training material for BioDot Sales and Applications team. Project Management and Miscellaneous Duties: + Manage projects effectively. + Handle other work-related duties as assigned. + Be available and responsive to inquiries. + Understand and meet customer expectations. + Maintain professional relationships with customers and co-workers. + Assist colleagues in need. Qualificiations Education: + BA/BS in Biology, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, or similar subject. + Preferred: + Master’s or Doctorate degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, or a similar subject. Cytogenetics Experience: + 6+ years of experience in drug discovery. + 2-4+ years of mass spec experience. + 2-4+ years of field application experience. + Experience in high throughput lab environments. Technical Skills: + Minimum of 4+ years of experience with analytical instrumentation, laboratory automation, electronics, mechanical engineering, or computers is highly desirable. + Proficiency with standard laboratory software/interfaces (Microsoft Excel, Word, Vendor Supplied/Custom Developed LIS). Communication and Organizational Skills: + Excellent customer interaction skills, verbal and written communication. + Proficient in PC skills (Office, database usage, help desk software). + Strong organizational abilities. Travel Requirements: + Up to 50%-75% domestic and international travel may be required. The base salary range for this position is between $110,000- $120,000 and is eligible to participate in the company's discretionary bonus program.
