Music Cataloger and Archivist Archives Special Collections (ASC) | Resource Acquisitions Discovery (RAD) University Library System University of Pittsburgh The Music Cataloger and Archivist is responsible for describing print and non-print library and archival materials including books, music scores, archival manuscripts, and materials in visual, audio, and electronic formats, primarily focused on music, according to national cataloging standards including Resource Description and Access (RDA), Machine Readable Cataloging (MARC), and Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS). This is a full-time, Visiting Librarian, non-tenure-track, one-year appointment that reports to the Coordinator of Archives and Manuscripts and works closely with the Head of Cataloging and Distinctive Collections Cataloger. This work will be performed on-site in the Archives Special Collections Department and the Resource Acquisitions Discovery Department, both located at the Thomas Boulevard Library. Efforts include, but are not limited to: • Provide original and copy cataloging for music resources, including scores and recordings, and for other resources in various formats and languages and from multiple time periods. Manage outsourced cataloging workflows as needed. • Participate in projects to identify and resolve quality issues in catalog records and to facilitate access and retrieval. • Participate in cooperative efforts such as the Program for Cooperative Cataloging’s BIBCO Music Funnel. • Document policies and procedures for workflows and projects in areas of responsibility. • Monitor or run imports of records supplied by vendors. • Organize and describe archival collections related to music, including, but not limited to, Sam Rivers, Ahmad Jamal, Bill Cole, etc. • Provide research assistance and security for the ASC Reading Rooms on a scheduled basis from four to eight hours per week. • Participate in inventorying and/or preparing other physical collections for research access. • Contribute to departmental initiatives, as needed, such as class visit support, exhibits, and events. Visiting Librarians at the University of Pittsburgh are members of the faculty and are encouraged to demonstrate continuous professional development in addition to performing their specific responsibilities. Specifically, the incumbent in this position is expected to: • Keep abreast of and contribute as appropriate to current developments in the profession, especially as they relate to all aspects of archives and cataloging; • Contribute to the profession through publications, presentations, teaching, or other professional activities; • Seek out appropriate roles in professional associations, research and/or publication on the regional, national and international level; and, • Participate actively in ULS and campus-wide working groups and committees, as appropriate.
