Faculty Instructor Adjunct Assistant

The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown is seeking an adjunct instructor to teach Criminal Court Procedure beginning in Spring 2026. A doctoral degree in Criminal Justice or Criminology is preferred. A master’s degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or related field, or a J.D., is required. College teaching experience is preferred. The course will be taught in person. The instructor will be responsible for all aspects of the course, from preparing a syllabus, presenting the class, grading assignments, meeting with students, and assigning final grades.

Criminal Court Procedure provides a broad overview of the role of courts in the American criminal justice system, including judicial procedure, organization, and personnel. The course focuses on how courts function and the elements of courts, trials, and criminal law. It explores theories of justice, dispute resolution, and criminal responsibility and discusses the roles played by the major participants in the adjudication process, what happens at each stage of the criminal process, and the influence of current political and social debates on the operation of criminal courts.
