Job Description / Essential Elements: PrintThe Oakland Clemente Course represents a partnership between the award-winning Clemente Course in the Humanities, Bard College, and Oakland Adult and Career Education (OACE). Clemente Courses are taught collaboratively among four instructors, each of whom teaches 12 two-hour evening classes in one of four disciplines: art history, critical thinking and writing, US history, or literature. All Clemente Courses are discussion based and provide free tuition, childcare, transportation, books and supplies. Students who complete the courses demonstrating college-level work will earn college credit through Bard College. Clemente instructors should demonstrate experience working with non-traditional adult students and the capacity to work with other instructors to create an engaged, dynamic, and supportive learning experience. Instructors are paid a $3000 stipend for leading a total of 12 classes spaced over two semesters as well as participating in course design. Credential Requirements (including Certification or Education Requirements): At minimum, a Master’s degree in a humanities-related field plus significant work experience teaching adult, non-traditional, students. Demonstrated dedication to the humanities, social justice, and education. Comfortable working in community and public settings with diverse groups of people. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Highly organized, motivated, and able to work independently. Creative, collaborative, and flexible. must be able to teach occasional Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 5:30pm - 7:30pm
