Job Title: Fact Check Researcher – Washington DC

Your New Role…

A critical part of the editorial review operation, the Fact Check researcher works closely with reporting and show teams in CNN’s Washington bureau. The role involves developing and reviewing stories for accuracy, fairness, and context, as well as providing research assistance for both short and long-term projects   

Researcher candidates should be enthusiastic about the details of Washington politics and policy and be prepared to work in a deadline-driven environment. The position will collaborate closely with Fact Check’s senior editor and be expected to assist in researching, writing, and editing for CNN’s linear and digital platforms.   

The work is fast-paced and demanding; researchers are expected to get the best out of dozens of research tools and find answers quickly.  They are an integral part of a global team that ensures CNN’s reporting across all platforms is factual, that our storytelling is sharp, and that pieces are vetted and approved expeditiously.

Your Role Accountabilities…

Serve as the primary researcher for CNN's Fact Check DC operation for both live events, long-term feature stories, and daily content for the network’s digital and linear platforms

Quickly review package scripts and anchor reads for the DC-based show teams, often under very tight deadlines

Build relationships with the DC news gathering teams, learning their processes and being available as an editorial resource as needed.

Serve as the primary Fact Check researcher for CNN's Washington bureau enterprise team, which includes investigative stories, KFILE, and feature pieces with beat reporters from the White House, Congress, Pentagon, Transportation, etc.

Prepare background information and conduct deep research for special projects including the maintenance of information used for DC-based data visual projects

Maintain detailed, up-to-date knowledge of the day’s news and current events inside and outside of Washington, with the ability to find and marshal reliable sources and communicate effectively with reporters, producers, and Fact Check editors

 Qualifications & Experience…

Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to find answers to very specific questions, as well as an intense interest in events here and around the world

Writing and reporting experience at university or post-graduation level

Substantial practical experience using online sources for research is required

Prior research experience in a newsroom setting is preferred

The ability to work quickly under pressure and collaborate closely with others is essential

Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, internal equity, location, skill set, experience, and/or performance. Base pay is just one component of Warner Bros. Discovery’s total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $36,356.00 - $67,519.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros. Discovery provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and sick time and vacation.
