Facility Technician (Barrie Transit)

Position Summary: The Facility Technician is responsible for ensuring that all transit service stops are kept in a clean, orderly, well maintained and safe condition.

 

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities: The following is not intended to be a comprehensive list of the essential functions of the Service Stop Maintenance Technician position, but rather a general description of some of the requirements necessary to carry out the duties and responsibilities of this position. The Facility Technician must be able to perform the following tasks, among others: 

Cleans transit service stop floors by sweepingGathers and empties trash and recyclingServices, cleans and replenishes transit service stop suppliesCleans seats and fixturesCleans windows, glass partitions using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges and Mixes water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specificationsDocuments and reports any deficiencies requiring maintenanceCarries out minor repairs as appropriateFollows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and fixturesRemoves snow from sidewalks and areas surrounding transit service stops using snow blowers, and snow shovels, and spreads snow melting chemicalsNotifies managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to transit service stopsRequisitions supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance dutiesMaintains a safe work area and a focus on safety to reduce the opportunity for injury to self or other employeesAccurately maintains proper shift documentation reports, and recordsDemonstrates a cooperative attitude with fellow employees and supervisors while promoting Company valuesMaintains a professional demeanor and appearance including strict adherence to company supplied uniforms, being properly dressed, neatly groomed and with good hygiene according to Company standardsDemonstrates regular and consistent attendance and punctuality in compliance with Company policiesAttends all required in-service training, Company required safety meetings and training and other required meetingsAll other duties as assigned 

Working Conditions: The Facility Technician works primarily in the field vehicle and requires the following physical activities: long periods of standing, walking, considerable use of arms, repetitive hand-wrist motion, and legs  and moving the whole body such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of cleaning equipment and materials. The Facility Technician primarily works in outside weather conditions and is  exposed to wet and/or humid conditions as well as adverse weather, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibrations.

Qualifications:High School Diploma or equivalentA valid G Ontario Driver’s License, or higherMinimum of 2 Years of driving with an acceptable driving recordTwo (2) years’ relevant experience preferred or any equivalent combination of education and job experience (as determined by the Company)

 Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Knowledge of standard cleaning procedures, chemicals, products and equipmentKnowledge of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information SystemKnowledge of the transit service areaAbility to read and understand labels and instructions, particularly on the use and application of cleaning chemicals and productsAbility to safety operate a variety of cleaning equipmentAbility to work independently and objectively with little or no supervisionEffective verbal and listening communication skillsDetail orientedAbility to plan ahead and schedule work

Wages: $22.82/hour + $1.00 shift premium (where applicable).
