We are seeking a skilled Chiller Plant Operator / Facilities Maintenance Technician with a strong background in HVAC and mechanical systems. Responsibilities include the safe and efficient operation of district thermal energy equipment in downtown Denver. Under the supervision of the Project Manager, you will ensure compliance with plant procedures while contributing to the reliability of our systems through preventive and corrective maintenance in a collaborative environment.

This position will be opened for at least 3 days.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Operate and maintain chilled water systems and related equipment.
• Work with a team of operations and maintenance technicians to deliver excellent service to customers.
• Adjust equipment to maintain established system setpoints and meet customer demand.
• Oversee industrial and commercial chiller operation, ensuring optimal performance.
• Operate and maintain auxiliary equipment including:
• Pumps
• Cooling towers
• Air compressors
• Control valves (pneumatic and electric)
• Evaporative condensers
• Chemical dosing equipment
• Instrumentation and control equipment
• Respond to alarms, diagnose issues, and implement corrective actions.
• Conduct preventive maintenance on various systems, including:
• Fan Coil Units
• Cooling Towers
• Pump lubrication and inspections
• Compressor oil/filter changes
• Fan and compressor belt changes
• Refrigerant recovery units
• Facilities winterization
• Brazing and pipe-fitting with various materials including copper, Sch 80 steel, PVC
• Monitor gauges, meters, and chemical controllers making necessary adjustments to maintain specifications
• Maintain daily plant logs and ensure thorough record-keeping.
• Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management System to complete work orders in support of plant maintenance.
• Understand Piping & Instrumentation Drawings for plant systems.
• Understand various mechanical and electrical theory and their application in plant operations and maintenance.
• Communicate any operational needs or changes to ensure safe and efficient operations.
• Perform facilities maintenance and repair as needed.
• Perform additional duties as required.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum two years of experience in utilities operation, stationary engineering, or refrigeration mechanics.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license.
• EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification required or be able to obtain within 90 days.
• Flexibility to work various shifts, including overnight and weekends.
Ideally, You'll Also Have:
• 2-5 years of experience in Utility Plant operations.
• Familiarity with principles and practices of chillers, compressors, cooling towers, water treatment systems, building automation systems, and plant instrumentation and control equipment.
• -Experience with Trane CentriVac Chiller operations and maintenance
• -Experience with Frick screw-type compressor operations and maintenance
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, CMMS, and SCADA systems.
• Experience with SAP or equivalent maintenance management systems.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
The work area can involve a working environment indoors as well as outdoors, which could cause exposure to outdoor elements; proper environmental attire will be required. Some areas can have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, airborne particles, noxious gases, pathogens and various chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.
Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, twist and bend at the waist, turn, kneel, squat, raise arms above shoulder height, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination to work on equipment, have vision sufficient to service equipment, have hearing in the normal range with or without correction. In an 8-hour shift must be able to transport self across the facilities, ascend and descend stair steps, lift objects up to 50 pounds from floor level to waist height, and wear and use appropriate safety equipment.
