Facility Dog Coordinator @ HUP

Summary: + The Facility Dog Coordinator is responsible for developing the Facility Dog Program at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) from the ground up. While the Facility Dog Program is being built, the Coordinator will be responsible for determining which facility dog organization is the best fit for HUP to partner with and, how to operationalize and enculturate a program to support patients, families and staff, while under the leadership of the Director of Patient Experience. The Facility Dog Coordinator will assume 24/7 accountability for the Facility Dog and will adhere to requirements set forth by the organization including but not limited to serving as the primary handler, attending training to be qualified to serve as primary handler, identifying and partnering with alternate handlers (who are existing HUP employees). This Coordinator will be responsible for growing the program's services as well as number of employee / dog dyads overtime, and ideally would commit to a minimum of 5 years serving in this role. + Please note: the Facility Dog must be the only dog in the Coordinator's home. Additionally, all living expenses, grooming, and veterinary expenses will be funded by the employer. Responsibilities: + Assume 24/7 accountability for the Facility Dog, including the ability to house, feed, and obtain veterinary care for the dog as needed + Ensure that the Facility Dog’s needs are being met and has the ability to be transported to and from work every day + Ensure Facility Dog's vaccinations are current and up to date. + Prioritize the Facility Dog's ability to have sufficient bathroom breaks and exercise while at work, as well as ample exercise, play, and time to rest while at home + Attend to patient, family, or staff consults for the Facility Dog. Consults can be for a variety of reasons including attaining a patient goal such as ambulation, improved range of motion, or medication taking. Additionally consults can be for psychosocial issues, or emotional support for patients, family members (including children), and staff during times of stress, grief, or loss. + Maintain documentation of care provided by the Facility Dog in the electronic health record. + Work with the Facility Dog partner organization to ensure that all requirements set forth by the organization are being met + Adherence to infection prevention and patient safety standards sufficient + Comply with Facility Dog policies & procedures + Onboard new teams to Facility Dog Program, as program continues to evolve Credentials: Education or Equivalent Experience: + Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required) + Education Specialization:Science and/ or HumanitiesEquivalent Experience: + Master of Arts or Science + Education Specialization:Science and/or HumanitiesEquivalent Experience:•Prior experience with Facility Dogs We believe that the best care for our patients starts with the best care for our employees.
