Facilities Manager The University of Southern Mississippi is currently accepting applications for the position of Facilities Manager. Job Summary Oversees and coordinates daytime, evening, and weekend operations for over 329,000 square feet of operational space and multiple outside spaces. Supervises the student staff responsible for opening and closing the facility, setting up rooms and audio visual equipment, monitoring facilities for custodial and maintenance concerns, and managing emergency situations while ensuring visitors adhere to University and department regulations. Primary Duties and Responsibilities + Manages daily facility and event operations for the Union Complex (The Hub, RC Cook Union, and Thad Cochran Center), the first floor of the Trent Lott National Center (TLNC) for Entrepreneurship and Economic Development, Danforth Chapel, and outside spaces. Daily operations include the on-time opening and closing of the facilities, checking for accurate completion of unique furniture set-ups in more than 30 spaces (tables, chairs, stages, dance floors, back-drops, and more), audio visual requests, and frequent client interactions to address their needs while they are in the venue.Manages facility equipment and furnishings.Oversees facility signage and updates accordingly. + Manages the student employee program within a learning-centered employment environment. Supervises approximately 30 student staff Complex Managers, Crew Leaders, Crew Members, and other student staff. This includes position advertising, hiring, training, scheduling, tasking, evaluating, professionally developing, and disciplining. Conducts training assessment and data collection using an outcomes-based evaluation system. Responsible for creating and updating training documents, manuals, and handbooks. Develops and leads customer service and client engagement initiatives for all Union Complex spaces. Trains the student staff to function independently as customer service liaisons, promoting the Southern Miss student experience by ensuring the “campus living room” is a clean, safe, and welcoming space for all visitors. + Monitors facilities for custodial, maintenance and security concerns to ensure cleanliness, functionality, and safety.Keeps records of observations and actions taken regarding any concerns observed. Reports on and offers solutions to critical facility issues. Serves as a building liaison with Physical Plant.Supports the Technical Services Manager with regular maintenance of property inventory for furniture, fixtures, and equipment. + Develops quality control procedures to verify facilities are opened and closed on time, rooms are set accurately, and audiovisual equipment is functional, taking corrective action as appropriate. Serves as front line ambassador and the Union Department’s most visible and accessible staff member. Proactively connects with major event clients before and during their events to ensure their satisfaction with the set-up. Remains accessible to major event clients to address needs that arise throughout their events. Quality control responsibility persists for events scheduled early in the morning, in the evening, on weekends, or during University holidays and breaks. When required, serves as the onsite professional staff representative for major events taking place early in the early morning, during the evening, on weekends, or during University holidays, and breaks. + Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in hospitality and tourism management, business administration, facility management, higher education administration or related field and one year of experience working in a supervisory role or leadership role in operations or related field. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities + Ability to engage in public speaking and interpersonal interaction. + Proficiency in facility management and event management. + Experience with long-range planning. + Demonstrated technical skills. + Competence in financial management. + Proficiency with facility and event management software (e.g., Mazevo). + Familiarity with personnel management software (e.g., WhenToWork, WebTimeClock). + Experience using online forms software (e.g., Formstack). + Ability to translate broad educational statements and philosophies into practice. + Skill in writing clear, specific, and measurable learning outcomes. + Aptitude for assessing learning outcomes through multiple methods. + Ability to physically perform tasks such as frequently lifting items at or near 50 lbs, kneeling, crawling, and climbing. + Strong command of student development theory, research, and trends. + Experience translating student development theory into developmentally appropriate and effective learning opportunities. + Experience facilitating student reflection for authentic and transformational learning. + Ability to effectively listen to students. Preferred Qualifications Master’s Degree preferred from an accredited college or university in hospitality and tourism management, business administration, facility management, higher education administration, or related field and experience in college union administration or facility management. Two years of relevant experience is desired in the following areas: supervision, interpersonal and public relations skills, facility management, building safety and security, event management operations, technical services operations, and general college union operations.
