Job SummaryThe Department of Materials Science & Engineering seeks a Facilities Coordinator to perform a wide range of activities relating to maintaining research and academic labs, equipment and building facilities. This position will report to the Facilities Manager and will work collaboratively with faculty, students and staff in the Department and College.

Department Facilities (30%)Coordinate major issues responseFacilitates emergency management and coordination within the department, college and university (floods, power outages, maintenance shutdowns, public safety response, weather, smoke/fire, hazardous waste spills, etc.) Space set-up, renovations, moves, alterations and associated documentation for labs and offices.Collaborate with the College for renovation planning, design and construction.Space and asset management survey and maintenanceMaintain Labs for Teaching and Research (25%)Maintain undergraduate teaching lab in a safe, productive condition Department building and lab safety (20%) Review EHS safety deficiencies and incidents/near-misses within departmentCollaborate with the college on facilities-related deficiencies and/or if any deficiencies/incidents/near-misses get escalated to the leadership levelReport safety issues within department, college, EHS and other university entitiesInstruct in general lab safety, PPE, hazardous waste removal, lab emergency situationsCollaborate with the Department Safety Chair to help lead department-level safety committee and support reporting and safety-related initiativesFacilities and Equipment (15%)Management for scheduling/coordinating equipment/furniture installations, maintenance, and removal/disposal including cost managementAssess utility and space needs for new equipmentProcurement of new/replacement parts, fixtures, supplies or furnitureTechnical capability to troubleshoot and provide mechanical/electrical repairs on equipment as needed Ensure all utilities in labs and building are operationalRepresent department facilities with college and university (5%)Coordinate facility use and management with college and university (5%)Space survey information gathering and data inputOther duties as assigned and neededRequired Qualifications*Associates degree or equivalent experience in engineering, industrial technology, management, or related field. Work experience or education in machine shop, electronics, and/or practical manufacturing technology. Strong mechanical/electrical aptitude for trouble shooting and problem solving. Experience in managing facility operations. Demonstrated superior interpersonal skills working with a diverse group of colleagues. Ability to interpret and effectively communicate Department, University guidelines and policies. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaborate effectively as part of a team; demonstrated ability to work under pressure of deadlines and competing priorities; ability to function productively in an ever-changing, high-stress, fast-paced environment; must be supportive of, and participate in, change initiatives to improve service, efficiencies and/or productivity; excellent attendance and dependability are essential.
Desired Qualifications*Demonstrated skills in project management; managing facilities across multiple sites; working with faculty; collaborating with a network of facility professionals. Budget/financial management skills are a plus.
