Facilities Assistant

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain Facilities

· Provide Support for all facilities (plumbing, electrical, mechanical. carpentry and janitorial)

· Transitional and Emergency Housing maintenance and turnarounds

· Good Samaritan Center

· Prepare and maintain currently unoccupied spaces for preparation for use.

· Housing Office and Youth Center

· Apartment/Corps Officers' Quarters

· Maintenance and Storage buildings/ closets

· Trash and Recycling

· Coordinate janitorial and maintenance contractors as agreed to by Corps Officer

· Ensure that all storage areas, closets, containers, rooms, and buildings are clean, neat and organized

· Ensure that all maintenance and landscaping tools and equipment are in good, safe condition

· Maintenance work authorized by:

· Emailed Work Orders from employees (including selt)

· Corps Officer approvals (many items have standing approval)

· All Work Orders completed in a timely manner

· Maintain Grounds

· Oversee contracted landscaping services so that grounds are always in good condition: mowed, fertilized, edged, and watered, etc.

· Remove all garbage, leaves, sand, etc. from street lawns. curbs. gutters and playgrounds

· Ensure that all sprinkler systems are functioning well and oversee repairs on sprinkler system

· Maintain Vehicles

· Ensure that all Corps vehicles are operational and in good condition.

· Oversee maintenance, repairs, advise Corps Officer of more serious deficiencies.

· Ensure that the mobile canteen is operational, fully stocked and ready to go at all times

· Ensure that the maintenance van is clean and at least ¾ fueled at all times

· Effectively direct volunteers

· Volunteers are critical to the success of The Salvation Army

· Oversee and encourage volunteers

· Help determine which tasks volunteers are suited for by asking and observing.

· Always maintain volunteer safety according to policy

· Safety Policy

· Adhere to Salvation Army Safety Policy:

· Attend all meetings of the Safety Committee.

· Conduct safety inspections as required

· Additional Duties

· Ensure that room set-ups and breakdowns are completed for all meetings,

· Ensure that Chapel is prepared for Sunday Services

· Coordinate special projects as directed.

· Perform deliveries and pickups using Salvation Army vehicles as needed

· Ensure that American and The Salvation Army flags are flown, weather permitting

· Assist in holiday kettle and toy drive.

· Other related duties as required

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

· High school diploma or equivalent (required)

· Experience in physical facilities maintenance and grounds is vital

· Working knowledge of heating and cooling systems, plum bi ng, electrical, interior modifications, water, landscaping, and irrigation systems.

· CA driver’s license

· Current First Aid / CPR/ AED certification.

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· Able to work independently

· Ability to work using a Work Order System.

· Proficient in safely using power tools and hand tools following proper safety procedures.

· Written and Verbal command of the English language required . Fluency in Spanish a plus.

· Willing and eager to build skills and learn.

· Able to work and relate well with people in many types of environments

· Maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem solving

 

EQUIPMENT USED:

· Modern Office Equipment and Relevant Software

· Speciality vehicles, tools, or anything that needs a cert/license to operate

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
