JOB TITLE: Facilitator, Tri-County In-School Program DEPARTMENT: Studio Programs REPORTS TO: Director, Studio Programs CLASSIFICATION: Temporary (1 Year Contract), Full-Time, Non-Exempt REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY: Project Based   GENERAL SUMMARY  Under the guidance of the Director, Studio Programs, the Facilitator, Tri-County In-School Program is responsible for developing, facilitating, teaching, and evaluating high quality classroom resources and learning experiences with art, using learner-centered methods and single-session artmaking activities. This position facilitates programs year-round, offsite at schools in the tri-county area during the academic day and/or afterschool for multiple school groups per day.   ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS + F acilitate interactive classroom learning experiences for grades 3 – 12 (both students and faculty) using learner-centered pedagogy and teaching strategies. + Lead multiple interactive classroom experiences per day with groups of students in grades 3–12, in which students explore, discover, and learn by engaging with each other in artmaking activities and with images of works of art in the DIA collection. + Demonstrate proficiency in teaching all areas of the DIA collection. + Develop and maintain knowledge of DIA permanent collection and special exhibitions to make curriculum connections. + Apply progressive teaching practices to meet Michigan curriculum standards. + Develop curricula, class plans, documentation, and evaluations for classes and related pedagogy. + Use a variety of proven techniques (e.g. Differentiated Instruction, Group Learning, Inquiry-based Learning, etc.) for engaging youth of all ages. + Work with the studio and gallery teaching teams and supervisors to develop, evaluate and refine classroom learning experiences for groups of students in grades 3–12. + Collaborate with in-school educators to improve program applications and practices. + Participate in reflective practice, individually and as part of a team to improve teaching skills. + Advise the Director of Studio Programs on program refinement, coordination, methods, scheduling, special considerations, and related logistics. + Connect with school-based staff to plan and/or adjust implementation of the in-school learning experiences. + Work across departments to develop content, including graphic design, marketing and communication, and evaluation. + Develop relationships with outside consultants as needed to achieve goals. + Work with Coordinator, Tri-County In-school Program to schedule and plan school visits. + Apply DIA values to interactions to support a culture of belonging among internal and external stakeholders. + Perform other duties as assigned.     QUALIFICATIONS    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE    Bachelor’s degree in fine arts, art education or a related field required. Four (4) years of classroom experience working with youth in a school or in another formal education program and working knowledge of artmaking and studio equipment required. May be required to have a valid Driver’s License and good driving record. Additional years of experience may be substituted for degree requirement. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES  + Demonstrated collaboration skills to work across departments and divisions internally and with diverse stakeholders externally.    + Demonstrated ability to speak publicly, including presenting or sharing information in a clear, effective, and engaging manner suited to the audience.  + Experience facilitating learner-centered teaching including Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) and other pedagogical approaches that support engagement with the collection for diverse audiences required. + Knowledge of principles, practices, and application of learning and stage-based developmental theories for children.   + Demonstrated knowledge of constructivist or learner-centered teaching practices.    + Demonstrated research and analysis skills to identify critical information and complete projects and goals.  + Strong classroom management skills. + Must have demonstrated active listening and communication and presentation skills and an ability to communicate and provide instruction clearly to diverse individuals of all ages. + Ability to provide information, ideas, and instructions clearly, effectively, and professionally through talking or writing. + Ability to identify challenges and opportunities, engage others in their resolution, and recommend appropriate course of action. + Demonstrated skills to prioritize and complete multiple tasks to meet deadlines and goals.  + Must be able to travel independently throughout Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb Counties to scheduled schools or other locations during the workday. + Must be proficient in latest version of Microsoft Office 365. + Ability to work occasional weekend and evening hours for special events. + Must be proficient in the latest version of Office 365.  + Must have proficiency in the use of remote work technology such as scheduling with, connecting to, and using digital collaboration platforms such as Microsoft Teams. + Must be able to establish and maintain professional, productive, and courteous interactions that promote positive teamwork. This encompasses going beyond giving and receiving instructions and includes but is not limited to (a) performing work activities requiring interacting or speaking with others; and (b) responding appropriately to constructive feedback or suggestions for improvement from a supervisor.
