Job Description
The Fabrication Estimator Technician is responsible for leading the estimation process for machine parts and weldments. This role involves interpreting 2D drawings and 3D models to deliver accurate fixed quotes. Additionally, the technician will support the fabrication team by providing technical guidance on machining, jigs/fixtures, welding, coatings, and NDE quality control. This position is crucial in connecting customer requirements with shop-floor execution. The role is based onsite and operates during the first shift.
ResponsibilitiesDevelop detailed quotes for machine parts, fabricated assemblies, hydraulic reservoirs, and structural frame weldments.Use quoting software like Paperless Parts to generate fixed-cost estimates.Analyze customer 2D drawings and 3D models using software such as AutoCAD and produce bills of material using ERP systems like Epicor Prophet 21.Create drawings and BOMs to bridge any gaps between customer details and fabrication requirements.Coordinate with the purchasing team to procure materials and liaise with vendors for material cost estimates.Guide the shop fabrication team throughout machining, welding, and finishing processes.Interpret welding symbols and ensure compliance with AWS welding qualifications.Maintain qualification records for welders in accordance with AWS and ISO-9001 standards.Design jigs and fixtures for repeatable production and setup efficiency.Conduct non-destructive examinations and quality control checks, estimating coatings and adhering to tolerance standards.Develop processes to support fabrication activities.Essential SkillsMinimum 5+ years’ experience in a machine shop and fabrication environment.Proven ability to estimate machined and fabricated parts and weldments.Proficiency with quoting software such as Paperless Parts and AutoCAD.Strong sheet metal design experience.Competence in using precision measuring instruments.Understanding of welding protocols, symbols, machinery, and qualification processes.Experience with AWS welding qualification systems.Knowledge of designing jigs and fixturing systems.Experience in performing NDE and quality control.Working knowledge of ISO‑9001 requirements.Experience with hydraulic reservoir fabrication and structural frame weldments.Familiarity with dimensioning/tolerancing practices (GD&T).Knowledge of surface coatings and finishes.ERP experience, especially with Epicor Prophet 21, is preferred.Additional Skills & QualificationsStrong communication and coordination skills with customers and internal fabrication team.Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time-management skills.Problem-solving mindset with the ability to support continuous improvement in fabrication workflow.Ability to learn and adapt to new software tools and fabrication technologies.Work Environment
The position is situated in Charlotte’s industrial hub, offering access to state-of-the-art fabrication facilities. The culture emphasizes continuous learning through the Institute of Applied Technology. The work environment is ISO-9001 certified, providing growth opportunities in automation and industrial technology sectors. The technician will spend 80% of their time at a desk, focusing on estimating projects, using CAD software, working with BOMs, and developing fabrication processes. The remaining 20% will be spent on the shop floor, providing technical guidance and engaging with various internal and external groups.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $90000.00/yr.
